Mako II
A guy that I know has what he claims is a "production Mako II". It supposedly has an L-88 engine, rolled and pleated interior, the tilt-forward hood, fender flares.
I saw the body and it is a disaster, but everything is there. It is sitting in a field with weeds growing up through it.
He claims he called ProTeam and gave them the VIN and Engine #'s and they offered him like $70,000 sight unseen.
Is this true? Were there any production Mako II's? Would it be worth this much?
Thanks!

Re: Mako II (GrandSportC3)
This couldn't be IT, could it?
It looks just like this picture, minus the paint, the girl with the high beams, and add in about 10 years of sittingin the field.
It is cool looking though.

Re: Mako II (iveka)
I think the single Mako II was modified by GM into the Manta Ray. If this is true, the Mako II no longer exists.
There were a number of MACO knock-offs made by customizers.

IMHO - the Maco Shark II was the coolest car ever made...

Yeah - there's a couple members here that are into them.
They have some molds for the body panels, etc.
Some day, I plan on making some of these VERY cool shark side emblems:

Re: Mako II (flynhi)
My $.02, I saw the MakoII, the one pictured, at Ecklers show 2/3 years ago. I liked it, always, There was no one around it, so I opened the door and started to get in. Not to steel it, just to be in it. Well, you might have thought I was loading it on the trailer, with the flurry of people running towards me! I explained to the "owner" that I was just looking. Ya sure you are!
I made an offer to purchase. "Not at any price" was what I was told. I even started writting a check and put in no ammount and handed it to the guy. He gave it back.
As far as I know there was only one, with a ZL1 in fact.
I don't think it would be sitting in a field at this time. If it is real, maybe $500,000. would be a starting place for offers :leaving:

The Mako II was at the corvette museum about 5 or 6 years ago in the front display case. And it still looked as good as it ever did. I doubt your friend owns the Mako II. I was under the impression the Mako II belongs to GM.

Re: Mako II (sb69coupe)
Why would I be kidding?
I like the car. First saw it at NY Auto show and flipped out then. The car I saw at Ecklers had the same flip up roof and all, that's why I got inside. To look and make sure. It was driven to the show, from where I don't know. Maybe the trailer was out back or some other place. It had chips in the paint, just like a road car would. Got to remember the thing is OLD. Still turns me on.
Now, if it would only cook.

It's a one of a kind car, at a car show. What could have made you think that it was OK to just open it up and climb in? Even if it wasn't the Mako, just someones Corvette at a show or cruise-in, there's no way that it would be appropriate to even touch the car, much less open the door and plop down in the drivers seat. Unreal.

Re: Mako II (sb69coupe)
Maybe I didn't make myself clear, There was a sign on the dash that I could see from the windshield that indicated it was forsale. When I ask the "owner" what that was about, he said that it was for another show car. How was I suppose to know what his intentions are. I'm not too stupid not to back up myself with an offer if my intentions were not real. The little guy from ecklers, the guy that is on the TV show, knew me and knew I was interested in that car for years. He tried to put a deal together for me a while back, still no go. I have no idea what it's worth but I am willing to make another offer if and when I find it again.
There have been many knockoffs that use parts that MAY look like this car, but they are not this car. Most of the knockoffs don't even come close. It would be a dream come true for me to have that vette. I was like a starving man on an island when I was told the car would be there and I better show up if I wanted it. And no I don't go jumping into other peoples cars, for any reason. My only reason for being there was to see and buy that car.
