Default Head bolt and gasket sealant

What are you guys using for the head bolts and general engine gaskets? I've used several permatex products in the past;#2 & Ultra black RTV.
Spoke with a Permatex rep and he said to use their High Temp thread sealant,#59214, on the headbolts and the Ultra grey on the rest of the gaskets. Anyone use either of these?
Thanks,
Gary

Don't use anything on the head gaskets unless the manufacturer specifically includes an instruction sheet saying to do to. Then only use the recommended stuff.

Permatex No. 2 on head bolt threads here--never a lick of trouble with it.

Gray RTV is OK on other gaskets that require a sealer. But just a dab of a smear, unless you're using it on the front and rear rails of an intake in place of the rubber things that come with the gasket set. Then use a 1/4" bead, let it set up for 5-10 minutes, then put the intake down. The gray RTV is an OK choice to seal intake bolt threads, but Permatex No. 2 is better-er, IMO.

make sure the bolts and threads in the deck are spotlessly clean. I use this to clean it, it's a goodway brush, I think you can order them online. Afterwards I clean with ethyl acetate or MPA.

Then I use the Permatex#2 liberally, torque heads down as soon as possible. Start engine with only water and if you suspect a leak (small one) try pouring some pepper in the radiator. It will plug small holes.

That looks just like a bigazzed bore brush. Kewl.

I've been known to use a Gub-Mint-issue M-16 chamber brush (not the .22-cal bore brush) to clean gunk out of holes after I hit 'em with a chasing tap. They're copper and they're real cheap.

I use a thread tap to run down thru the bolt holes to clean em out then blast it dry woth compressed air. #2 permatex is what ive always used on the headbolt threads.

I use a combo of taps and brushes to clean the threads. Then I use RTV to seal the threads. Never had a problem with it. Never thought of trying #2.

Besides running a tap through the holes I took the lazy way out and just ordered a complete new set, with GM Sealant already on them, from PaceParts (www.paceparts.com) for $26.
