It installs much easier than the stock shifter. It does fit the tunnel and shifter boot. You have to make sure you get the shifter rods lined up correctly but other than that it is an easy install. The bolts are a little tight fit in the console area bolting the shifter to the trans but it can be done.

I don't think you will like that long shift stick that comes with the Hurst. They sell a "look like stock" in the catalogs.
BTW, I paid a rather handsome fee to have mine installed, but it was worth it to me.

One word of caution, I just bought 2 brand new hurst shifters and both were very poorly built. I returned 1 for credit and the second one I sent back to Hurst to have them correct the problem. The shimming between the 3-4 gate was very loose at about .080" compared to my 23 year old Hurst with .007-.010" play. I didn't want to chance a 3rd purchase to see if this is the way they're now built? Also the neutral engagement was binding on these. Hopefully it was just a couple that got by the inspectors? I think several people here had some problems with new shifters too??? Maybe they'll post on the type of problem?

My Hurst has been a great shifter, especially compared to the stock one. I have never had the Hurst get stuck in two gears at once. It was a PIA to install, but if ratcheting box end wrenches would have just been around when I installed it, it would have been easy. It was the old eighth-of-a-turn...reposition....eighth-of-a-turn thing. I won't speak for everyone, but my Hurst has been pretty reliable....maybe not quite as slick shifting, but at least I don't have to crawl under the car and pop it out of a wrong gear. :smash:

EEEEZZZZZ on the install. Good Tip: you can shorten the shifter and redrill the mounting holes using the supplied spacer as a template! Shortened mine down to stock level. Good Luck!!

GTR1999,
Where did you purchase the shifters. Maybe you received rebuilds for perhaps the vender got a bad lot. Has anyone else had a bad experiance with the new Hurst shifters? :steering:

Bought them from Summit and they arrived within a couple of weeks of each other. Summit didn't give me any problem returning them but the tech guy really didn't understand what I was explaining anyway
Spoke to Hurst/MrGasket and emailed pictures of the new and old shifters showing feeler gauges in the gap. I can email you them if you want to see what I'm referring to. I don't like buying a new item then having to have it rebuilt :cuss Hopefully it doesn't happen too often.

I installed mine, pretty easy. Make sure you have a racket wrench tho, it's tight on a couple bolts, and the racket wrench saves you alot of grief.

It si pretty straight forward installation. Take your time to adjust the linkage rods and stops correctly. I made the misstake of ajusting the linkage rods to tight (no play) and had problems shifting. Also the shifter inself has to be used for a while before i has the right feel. Acouple times a year I spray the shifter with penatrating oil and that keeps it working smoothly.
