Another Wheel/Tire question..
A friend and fellow forum member (lotahp) uses 28 x 12.5 - 15 ET Street tires on 15 x 8 Rally Wheels without the tire rubbing against the frame.
AFAIK - those wheels have 4 inch backspacing...
If I use 15 x 10 rims with 4 7/8 inch backspacing - they shouldn't rub either.
According to my calculations - the tire should actually be 1/8 inch more to the outside (at it's widest point).. Am I correct???

Your theory is sound. This would move the center of the tire 1/8" away from the car. But one thing you need to consider is the tire is going to bulge more and be wider on a wider rim. I don't know by how much, but the rim width does affect the overall tire width. That is why tire manufacturers give the rim size when stating the overall tire width.

Like to see the combo on your car. I run 15x9 Draglites with 5 1/2" BS but with a 1 1/4" adaptor. This leaves a 4 1/4" virtual BS.With this my P295 50's barely stick out past the fender, which is what I wanted, but the 50's look a bit too short.Next set I'm thinking Hoosier Prostreet radials. They measure 28.8" diameter,10.5" tread, and shoud fill up the well perfectly.

I am thinking about getting 29X15.50R-16LT Hoosier Pro Street Radials and want to get an idea of how they fill up the wheel well. I have 16x12 wheels with 5,5" backspacing.

I won't be needing tires for a few years, just got all new rubber. In the past I've run P275-60's (28" tall) and liked the look, but they seemed a bit too narrow so I went to the P295 50's. These fit the width I wanted, but are only 26.8" tall. The Hoosier tire should fit both dimensions well, but are quite a bit more money, and at the time I needed tires,I also sprung for new wheels.Next go around will be the Hoosiers.
