No more PF-25 oil filters?
Went to buy some ACDelco PF-25 oil filters, and I'm told they are no longer being made. Instead, the guy gives me PF-454 and says it's the replacement. Is that true? It's about an inch shorter.

They're still available in Canada. But the rest of us can use the PF1218. It's a long filter (which I'm currently using)... :yesnod:

I got a pair of PF-25 Filters last week at a NJ Chevy dealership. They told me they have close to a 100 in stock. Check your local dealers....
Good luck....

I like to run long style filters w/ a strong case, that way you can eliminate the by pass in the spin on adapter so when the oil is still cold it won't be rerouted into the engine unfitlered.
Currently I'm running a system 1 filter

As noted the PF-25s are still available in Canada. They are made in Oshawa, Ontario. The PF454 was designed for the 8.1L GMC Vortec engine but will work. The PF1218 will work also: it is basically a PF25 with a check valve, originally designed for the ZR1 where the application was horizontal. I use the PF35 on my 1967 which has a spin-on adaptor. I cannot explain why the USA is getting out of the PF25 business. I have not heard of such plans for Canada.

Can't find them around here, but while I was visitiing my folks in Texas, I went into a parts store and cleaned off the shelves of PF-25's. Three months later my son visited my folks, and I had asked him to check out the parts store and pick up any PF-25 he could find, came back with 4 more. Looks like I have about a 3 year supply of PF-25's.

You might want to consider the PF25L (part # 25013454). It is a long Chevy small block filter developed for racing and has a synthetic filter media with 12 micron absolute rating. Reportedly cut engine wear by 75%. Down side is you have to order it from a GM dealer and they are about three times the cost of a regular filter.

70vert,
Do you want to buy a dozen PF-454? $33.00 plus shipping. The internet supplier where I bought them wanted a $20 restocking fee to return them. Lesson learned!

I work at a used Corvette dealership and only use AC filters. I ordered PF25's and was told they went being made anymore. I got the 454's and have been using them.

Re: No more PF-25 oil filters? (Duke94)
I have a friend who works for a chev dealer. He says, 1218 is pf35 with higher filtration. Just bought two of them for under $5 each. I have seen the pf25s and pf25l at a local autozone, but wasnt sure if they were correct. Had plenty in stock about $5 each. They had plenty of Fram pf4's but I prefer the AC. Lots of Mobil 1's, but who wants to pay 12 bucks for an oil filter. Sheesh.
