Try this link written up by one of our good UK brothers (Theouk). His article might help you out even though it was written for an '80. I am sure they are the same animal as what is in your '81. I hope you can gleen something of use out of it. If you don't see anything to help you, send Theo an IM and see what he thinks. He has been through his system and is very familiar with it.

There's a lot of good reading in that article CVT4ME. Thanks for posting it. After reading through part of the article, i think i might have found my problem. I'm going to go try a couple things and see if they work.
By the way, here is a quote from the article:
People complain about these things "hunting" around the set speed, or just pulling the throttle down so you rocket off to the horizon.
that is exactly what mine is doing :yesnod:

Per 1982 Service manual- If vehicle surges: 1 Perform general preliminary diagnostic system check. 2 Check for bent speedo cable tip. 3 Check for too long speedo cable assembly. 4 Check for bent, kinked, or misrouted cable and casing assembly. 5 Check for binding throttle linkage or cruise control bead chain or bowed cable. 6 Check vehicle for correct transducer part number.

Corvettemaster,
Let us know if you sort it out - and what the problem(s) were - the more info on these things the better!

Magnum 82, those things you mentioned are all very true - I didn't really dwell on the condition of the speedo cable in my acticles - but probably should have!

CVT4ME, appreciate the words of praise - good on you for spreading the word about!
