Found a 79 coupe, C-3 guys, I need your advice!
Found a 79 coupe that don't look too rough, I don't know much about it, it started and ran. Has auto tranny, paints not too bad, its been painted, but lots of dings and some scratches. Interior not super rough, ac compressor looks bad, no belt on it. Headlites came up and worked, aftermarket radio, nothing special.... T-tops look rough, weather stripping rough. OK, I have a chance to bid on it, I love the C-3 body style, tell me more about that year model and what you think I should consider biding..... might be a good fixer upper..... let me know what you think..... thanks for all your help, Jeff :seeya

79 was one of the low horsepower years, if its an auto L-48 you are looking at like 190 HP, er... To the flywheel.
I had one myself, very nice car... you will want to look for the front and rear pace car spoilers, because they can really make a difference in the way the car sits/looks.... there is not a whole lot to say, other than watch out for frame rust, or "birdcage rust" (think T-Top area). Also, you will want to make sure the car does not need Brake work....because that can get pricey, real fast on the C3's.
Do the headlights work? this is something you should be aware of....
the way you described the car it sounds like it would be 7,000 US...or, maybe a little more or less, depending on the condition of everything.

errr, after re-reading your description of the vehicle.. I'd be leaning more towards $5,500-5... just to give you that extra bit of money to order the right parts you will need to do the job.

You sure you want an auto. The biggest thing I miss in this car is that its an auto. painting a C3 won't be cheap either, especially with rubber bumpers.

It would also depend on what you want in the car and what you want to do with it. You may also want to go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and check out how to buy a C3 under the MISC section.
Do you want something to work on or do you want to get in and drive it and look good? Can you do the work or would you have to pay to have someone do it.
Bottom line, buy the best you can afford. :auto:

I have a 99 as well as a 79. I really like the 79 and it's a lot cheaper to buy parts for it then the 99. I just got my 79 about 4 months ago and already put $4000.00 into it, but it's worth it.....Good luck

Your description makes the car sound pretty neglected. There are lots of cars out there and I would suggest that irrespective of the year, that you buy the best car for the money. This might seem "cheap" but by the time you address all the items noted, even if you do some/all of the work, you'll be spending some pretty big coin. Might be better to find one for sale that someone else has sunk a pile of money into to fix up. Their loss is your gain!!

I think you are right. If I bid I might bid around $2500. Don't think I'd get it for that but if I did I could fix it up slowly.... Heck who knows, someone might think its worth more than that. It would be worth that much just to have something to tinker on. I just might be

needs a little bodyu patch-work, needs pain, needs a good interior cleaning and maybe more. A/C not working, etc....
have you checked underneath for rust? The most common place is the frame right in front of the rear wheels.
based on the condition you stated, I'd say no more than $4k. The $2500 you're thinking of bidding would be a pretty good price for that car from the sounds of it.
The other thing to consider is how much of the work you'll do yourself. I gather that you'd be pretty hands-on, which greatly changes the amount of $$ you'll spend to get things done.
Good luck!
Post pics if you can.
