Default Which one to go for, opinions needed

Ok guys I need some opinions here, I'm at a dilemma on which ride I should go for. After over a month of searching, I now have several v's to chose from.
They are: a 71, 73, and a 77. Now, without going into complete detail about each one, let just say they are all of equal in their condition for the year which is very nice condition.

The 71 interior has been completely restored, very nice paint job, ps, pb, engine and transmission have been rebuilt and several other item such as brake booster, shocks, weatherstripping and other things have been replaced.

73 is all original and in excellent condition, inside and out, engine is very clean.

77 is also excellent condition inside and out.

price ranges are from 9500. to 14,500

Now, I guess what I looking for besides a nice ride is one that will hold a resale value if I ever decide to sale it compared to the asking price. Also my wife was leaning towards a 90's model. I'm not sure how the 90's hold their value compared to the 70's which is what I think we should go with. Any opinons would be appreciated.

All things being equal the the 71 should be the highest price/value, 73 second and 77 third.

:iagree: And I also agree that the 71 & 73 should hold there value better than a 90's vet.

:iagree:

And I'll add that over the next few years the 90's (except ZR-1 maybe) will continue to drop where as the 71/73 will stay relatively flat/appreciate (77 I dunno).

Anything with chrome will be better :D

71,73 ,77 in that order. All will hold their value better than the 90's. If it was me personally I would go for the 71. All that chrome and from the sounds of it you will have alot of the fix up work already done for you. Let us know what you end up getting.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate all of your opinions. Looks like the 71 win the opinion poll. I will be heading over tomorrow to give it a look over. The guy is meeting me at a local vette shop. So if things work out I should be an official vet man.

A LOT !!! MUCH MORE POWER, more hood clearance, ........................................ .........................

Not enough info. & about +50% diff. in prices. You need to know the diff. between years & drive all three. Any of them could be the one for you.

Okay guys, I have to jump in here and be different. I would have to vote for the '73 (who would have thunk :D ).

The 71 may have more value and cost you more to get. But almost have to be an expert to tell a 71 from a 70 or a 72 :( The 73 is unique, one year only. Very easy to reconize.

The 77, I would put in a distant 3rd palce.

You did not say what engines, but if either the 71 or the 73 is a big block, put that one at the top of the list :)

But, as to the 90. I cannot knock the 90 Vette, a very nice car. I have one. It is great for a road car, can travel for hours on end. I would have to vote for it too.

So get the '73 AND the 90

By the way, here are my 73's:

and here is the 90:

tom...

Here,s an update. went to check out the 71 today. When I pulled up, I saw it, and thought, this is the one. :hurray: But, closer inspection proved me wrong. :cry The 71 looked good, but did have some issues, main one for me being it did not have the original engine. It had a pretty good paint job, had some chips, found some rust around where the windshield and door meet. The engine as I was told had been rebuilt, did not look it to me, oil leaking from some place, oil puddles on top of the manifold, seat were lose, several other minor problems. Interior was decent, did have a small amount of water in one of the storage compartments, could not get two of them opened. I did not think it was worth what the guy was asking for it, espically with NOM.

So the search will continue, the 73 is very nice but the price tuned out to be a little more then I could pay.

The 77, the guy never sent me the additional info on it, so he can keep it. You would think that if someone is trying to sell something, they would get you the info requested, it not like he's out of town or business travel, just slow in responding.

First off, sounds like you did a great job not getting emotionally attached. I wish I had been more careful when I bought my car, but I had seen so many cars for a similar price that looked like crap... Mine turned out to need just as much work, but cost a bit more and may have a few other issues...

Next, as far as that '73 goes, if the asking price is higher than what you can/want to pay, offer what you are willing to pay. If the seller doesn't want to deal now, maybe they will down the road if they cannot sell it. The economy isn't exactly perky at this point and buying an old car is much different than a new one as far as loans and the like go.

Good luck and keep up the search! :chevy

I have always liked the 73's because it was a one year only car and did not have a catalytic converter. I think they will always be a good collector car, and certainly the 71's are as well. I would agree with others a big block in either year would make it the one of choice. The 77 would be a good car too, but I keep thinking about emissions and the fact it would have to be equipped as such to pass any testing.

All of the vettes that I have found or looking at have the L48. I could never afford a LT1 or BB, not on my budget.
