SB 400 w/2 bolt mains? Where should I look?
Eventually I want to replace my 350 with a SB 400 (2 bolt mains). I need some input on what vehicles these were produced in to begin my search. I've tried searching the forums but either I just don't get it......or I just don't get it!?
Hope I'm not beatin' a dead horse for everyone reading this....
Thanks for the input

From what I've been reading it's my understanding the 2 bolt block, stock, is stronger than a stock 4 bolt. So I figure if I don't have either at this point I can be picky...... :yesnod:

why a 2 bolt ?
If you want to buy a core from a salvage yard car, look for 1970s-era full size Chevys like Impala, Caprice and similar.
Here's a tip, though. Get a copy of the local Auto Trader or whatever. Look at the ads from those places that sell the garbage $600 short blocks. Call them and tell them you want to buy a 2-bolt 400 SBC block from them BEFORE THEY DO ANY MACHINE WORK to them. Go and look. You will see lots of junk and you will get a real good idea as to why $600 replacement short blocks are $600 replacement short blocks. But you might score.
I did this about 3 years ago. I went to probably four places before I found a shop that had a couple of virgin blocks. Since they both mic-ed out as "good," I bought 'em BOTH for $175--Built one and kept one as a spare. Today I wouldn't sell my spare block for anything less than $400. (That's what they're going for around here as of a couple of months ago.)
Good luck.

I found 3 at 2 core supply builders. One was 40 over no good but the other 2 are standard bore. He wants $250 not too bad ! One will become my 406.  :seeya 2 bolts by the way. will have them splayed.
