Default 69 trim rings question

Can anyone tell me if original trim rings on a 69 were stainless steel or chrome? Also, did original rings have four or multiple mounting clips?

Thanks

Mark

Can't guarantee this for 69, but 76 was chrome with 4 clips.

Mark,

The original trim rings for 1969 Corvettes were stainless steel with four clips used to hold the ring to the wheel. In original examples, there was one clip mounted adjacent to the valve stem hole and the other three were at 90 degree intervals. On reproductions, you will find the clips are typically not aligned properly, however, they can be moved to the proper location. Sometimes, say in NCRS judging, a judge will ID repro rings (where the clips have been moved to the proper location) by how far they 'stick out' from the wheel.

Thanks for the reply. Since my trim rings are scratched (previous owner scraped a curb) I am looking for replacements. Just want to do it right!

Mark,

Replacements are probably the way to go. Again, the clip placement can be adjusted, if that matters. In many instances, 'dings' can be tapped out and scratches can be buffed out, however, this can be fairly labor intensive. Most of the major suppliers, such as ZIP, Paragon, etc carry the rings.

Mark

Currently I fly the 300 and 400 series 737. I have considerable time in the 767-200ER, 757-200, 727-200, 737-200 as well as the Fokker F28 and F100 series.
