Anyones **** as hot as mine?.....
.....shifter that is. The ball on my 4 speed shifter gets so hot on a trip to L.A. that you can hardly touch it! Anyone else in the hotter climes experiencing this?

Yes, any stick shift handle I ever had gets hot from car/engine/trany heat, nothing I know to do of it....
some guys like the insulation over the tranny both on top and under the fiberglass, against the tranny, others suggest that horse collar over the bellhousing...

Thanks, I was afraid this was going to be a "no fix" kind of a thing. Maybe driving gloves are the answer.

Mine is a Hurst replacement shifter and it gets hotter than all get out as well. The stick itself will almost burn your hand if you touch it. The boot around mine is also worn and the air coming out around it is very hot.

Mine gets hot as well while I am driving, but if I keep my hand on it constantly, the heat seems to disapate and it remains at a lower temp.

My 69 Hurst shifter gets very hot, but the plastic shifter **** stays pretty cool.

Get a plastic shifter ****.
I never noticed the auto shifter on mine getting hot, so there's an alternative:
go auto.

Might try dropping an insulating donut, maybe wood as a washer... just to keep the heat from coming up through the metal... But, eventually it would anyway! Guess ya need better a/c? :jester

I have the stock metal ball and it gets pretty hot, but it takes a while and it has to be mighty hot outside as well. Funny, my BOSS has a factory Hurst Competion Plus and it never gets hot, even though it bolts right to the top-loader tailshaft...

Funny now that you mention it is has not been hot for some time even though it used to get real hot when I first bought the car. It may be that I switched to syn trans lube.

Weird....my Hurst shifter (with the usual Hurst plastic ball shifter) never gets hot. Even the steel stick just gets warm but certainly not burning hot???

My 1969 modified 350/300 with haeders cooks!
The tunnel insulation is about half gone and the headers have to be warmin' things up. The entire console gets pretty warm, but the shifter is often too hot to hang on to!

Paul,
I also have a Hurst T-handle on my T-56 and if the car is left in direct sun I can barely touch the **** for more than a micro second. This has taught me to shift quickly but it is still painful. I am contemplating different remedies and one that I think I am going to explore is wrapping the shifter with bicycle handlebar tap. The tape comes in a multitude of colors and is adaptive to the shape of the handle. Any other creative solutions?
Good Luck!
