Rebuilding 350/350hp, Need Suggestions on Good Intake
I'm rebuilding my '70 L46, 350/350hp. Block .030 over, Crank .010 under, Pistons TRW 11:1, Heads L46 machined, Distibutor converted to electronic, 650 Holley Spread Bore 0-6210 (4165), Cam hydraulic - intake and exhaust - .480 with a 1.75 rocker arm ratio.
Want to add an aluminum intake but having trouble finding one that will work with the Holley Spread Bore, fit under the hood and still add noticeably to the performance. Anybody have any suggestions on an intake I can use?

I'm using a Weiand Action Plus with a Holley Spread Bore. Works great! :yesnod: Here are some pics:

The Weiand Action Plus is the one I am considering. Just want to find out if anybody has tried anything else? Nice looking engine though you got there.

I've got an "Action Plus" also. I believe that Edelbrock Performer will also accept either a Sq bore or a Sp bore Carb......

The question I have is what gears do you have, and what duration is the cam. This will make a huge difference in the intake selection.I know your hood clearance will limit your selections, but a 240 degree cam will be not well suited with a Performer intake, and visa versa a 204 degree cam isn't a great match for a Wieand 7525 single plane intake.
When in doubt,go dual plane, you can't go wrong under 5000 rpms.

The gears are 355's with a M20, 230 degree cam @ .050, advertised duration 292.

I don't think you can go much past the "Performer" or equivalent from another mfr without running into hood clearance issues. I'm presuming you are running a stock '70 small block hood.

The cam you mention is borderline dual plane/single plane.Since you have a 4 speed and decent gears, you may like this one.I concidered it myself, but I tend to get more thrill from a broad torque curve suited to street level rpms than high rpm strip only blasts.

It's a Wieand 7525.Go to the Holley Performance website. It's supposed to fit under a Vette hood,is spread bore and the rpm bandwidth is 2000-6500.
I thaught about this one myself, but the dyno tests I've seen show better numbers with the RPM intake.Of course the RPM won't fit under your hood.

Talked to Edlebrock tech rep, first choice Performer RPM but will not fit under the hood and will not work with Holley Spread Bore. Tech's second choice is the Torker.
Talked to Weiand tech rep, first choice Stealth but will not work with Holley Spread Bore. Tech's second choice is the Team G 7525.

Almost any of them would work with a drop base cleaner

Re: Rebuilding 350/350hp, Need Suggestions on Good Intake (The Money Pit)
If memory serves me right the carb pad on the Wieand 7525 is about the same height as the Edelbrock Performer, and the boss is drilled for the spread bore carb. Not sure what to believe anymore from tech support. The Edelbrock techs told me the RPM wouldn't fit,and I believed them till I saw a few 80 Vettes at Carlisle running them.Wasted cash on the Performer which now sits on my bench. The bottom line is if you're after more top end,and don't mind a slight loss of low end,go small single plane. If you plan on tooling around on back roads and want more launch torque(which translates into a quicker ET anyway) go dual plane. The hood being the determining factor in how tall a manifold in either case.

Your right, the 7525 is about the same height as the Performer and the 7525 is drilled for the Spread Bore. So you have the RPM? Would like to go dual plane if I can find one that will fit and compliment the cam.

Re: Rebuilding 350/350hp, Need Suggestions on Good Intake (Raydon 3000)
I have a '72 with the stock hood and base 350 engine. I am currently running an Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holley 650 cfm double pumper spreadbore carb. I also use a reproduction open element air cleaner with the drop base. I have no issues with hood clearence and I have the high performance LT1 look!!! The drop base is important for clearence, unless you stay with the original air cleaner and quadrajet carb. Good luck!!!

The air filter housing I have almost encloses the Holley, had to modify the gas line to make it fit. The lid to the housing touches the carb when the wing nut is in place. I have to be careful about locking the choke open when installing the cover. Is this what you mean by a drop base?
