Wiper door bolts are NOT 1/4-20!!!
A month or so ago I posted the question "what size are the bolts in the wiper door?" Someone responded 1/4-20! Well I went ahead and ordered the bolts and in the mean time I drilled and tapped the four holes. I was quite suprised to find out 1/4-20 was a little big! I ended up buying 4 stainless bolts from the hardware store and having a machinist friend do a little work on them and now they're good as new-maybe better! In the end I'm glad I went 1/4", I don't think I'll ever have to do this again!

You're right, those bolts are 10-24 thread. I'm working on a repair kit for the threads in the wiper door to go along with my wiper grill thread repair kit, but I'm not sure what kind of interest there'll be for it. It would consist of a brass or stainless steel insert, and new shoulder bolts.
Glad you got out of that jam!

Mine was off the car when I got it and totally messed up. One of the holes was a 5/16 inch disaster! I bought some aluminum 5/16 bolts, drilled, tapped and JB welded them in. After cutting them off flush, I re-drilled them (the only place I messed up - they are slightly off) and used the stock bolts and bushings I got from GM. One of the vendors provides repair service and the jig that I needed to get it right. Mine now works great, and I service it frequently to prevent it from binding again.
