I heard of this a few years ago but I have not heard anything for some time, was wondering if anyone in the Toronto area knew a place where you could rent a hoist to work on your car ?

Wayne, I will lend you my set up if you want to borrow it. I don't know if you remember what it looks like or not, but it is a modified a-frame with a 3 ton chain fall that I used to lift the body off with. You can see part of it in this pic:

Let me know if you want to use it.

I just re-read your post and realized that you want a hoist to work under the car! I tried!

Thanks Bruce I have a 1 ton chain hoist attached to a beam in my garage for lifting motors etc. I want to put in a new clutch and I dread lying under the car doing that job.

I remember years back(might have been many) some *Do your own work* places popping up where you could rent out a bay with a car lift in each one. Do those places still exist or did they go under with all the new electronic stuff on cars these days? Like I said.... might have been many years ago.

Find someone in the Military. They have some good automotive hobby shops with lifts and the whole nine yards. At least here in States they do....

I think there is still one in downtown Hamilton near City Chev. I don't know if you want to travel that far though.

Ummm, this is Canada, I don't think you'd want to use thier equipment. :lolg: Our Army may be the best trained, after Britian, but it is by no means the best equipped. Trust me.

I saw a tv report and couldn't figure out why our tanks had backup lights and a yellow racing stripe on them. with a 5 ft antennae that is an early warning cdn helicopter crash avoidance allert. :lolg:

... sorry for the OT remark, if I was going to be at the school this week you could have come up here, but I won't be in there for 2 weeks.
