Which service manual is best for C3
Which service manual is best for a rookie to work with. The GM original or reprint ones are very pricey. How about Chiltons or Motorbooks International?

The factory service manuals are the way to go for mechanical repairs. You can find them pretty cheap on E-bay. The corvette was usually grouped with some of the other GM cars, so if you just search for a particular year then you will get a lot more hits. Hope this helps.

The only manuals to consider are the factory service manuals. Stay away from Chiltons and others of that type. They try to cover too many years in too few pages. They can be a general reference and assist in changing the oil but I would not trust them for major work.
Get the Factory manuals. If the manuals for '74 are like for my '73 there is the '73 Passenger Car Service Manual and the '73 Passanger cars and light Duty Truck Overhaul Manual. Would assume that 74 has basicly the same. Then get the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) to see how the major parts fit together.
You can get these from most Vette vendors, but they can be expensive. So, as mentioned above, check out ebay. Should be able to find them there in good shape for a fair price.
