Default Does anyone know the torque for the three bolts on the spindle/steering knuckle?

I have not been able to find this info anywhere! I am replacing the dust shields, and would like to properly torque these bolts down.

I just did the same thing and I had trouble find the torque specs. I can't remember the specs. but I think the large nut at the top was listed in back of the 68 Chevrolet Service Manual. I can't recall whether I could find a spec for the other two bolts. I think I just tightened them up real good. The Haynes manual did not list the specs. and its unclear what's the official name for them. i.e., steering arm bolts, caliper mounting bracket bolts. Who knows.

I grew up on a farm. The rules there are, keep the torque wrench in the drawer. Tighten until you think the threads are about to let go. OR tighten until the threads JUST begin to stretch. Its always good to have a extra bolt handy....

It's in the assembly manualif you have one. I'll look when I get home. Had trouble finding it whe I put mine back together also. I think its arround 70 - 80 ft lb.

Not likely to be in the assembly manual as the spindle/wheel assembly was attached as a single unit (assembled at the vendor). (Refer to the large bolt that holds the dust plate, the plate has locking tabs for the bolt head)

I believe the steering arm to spindle is 70 ft lbs.

I can't find it in my assembly manual, or my 1972 GM sevice manual. Do you think all of them at 80 ftlbs with a dab of blue Loctite would be good?

I think I did 70ft lbs and no locktite, so your approach should work. After I run the car for a few hundred miles (once I get it running  ) I think I'll recheck all the fasteners.

On the midyears - which I believe are very similar - the two smaller bolts/nuts are torqued to 70 ft. lbs., and the larger top bolt to 120 ft. lbs.

I think I will go with 70 ftlbs on the two smaller ones, and 100 ftlbs on the big one, with some blue Loctite as extra insurance. Thanks guys!

Now I remember :D . They're in the service manual. The large top bolt - 120 ftlbs. The spindle arm bolts are not listed anywhere for the corvette. Other passenger cars are anywhere from 50 - 120 ftlbs. I used the Chevelle specs - 80 ftlbs.

In my service manual it's in sect 18
