Default Seat Disassembly?

Have any of you had problems with the big philips screw that goes through the chrome brace and holds the two halfs together and allowing them to fold forward. I have sprayed anti seize over them and they don't look rusty but man the want come out! :mad Every big screw driver I put on them seems to twist out of the slots instead of turning the screw. Any suggestions please?

Wade, the original seats from my '69 gave me the same trouble. What I did was remove everything down to the bare seat bottom frame and hinge. I sprayed it with PB Blaster, then took a torch and really heated the back side of the seat bottom frame around the screw. It took a couple tries, but it finally broke loose.

Good luck!

Thanks Shannon I will try that this evening. Haven't seen you on the forum lately where ya been? Traveled to Charlotte lately? Coming to the Auto Fair next month at the speedway?

Another way to break the screws loose it to use an impact driver. I have one that is 3/8" drive and has a set of bits. You wack it with a hammer and there is a twisting mechanism inside that drives the bit either left or right. I don't think they are very expensive and it sure comes in handy. Craig

I had lots of problems getting that screw to turn. I did manage to finally get it off with just a lot of grunting.

I wasn't so lucky, I ended up locating rust free frames in Cali.

No one mentioned it here but mine had a locknut on the end of that screw inside the frame.

Sure you took that off first??
