Poll---does you power steering leak
Mine was leaking when I first got the car. So eventually I got around to replacing the lines and the controll valve and the ram. About two weeks later it started to leak again. Not real bad but it does leak. Ive heard so many others mention that thiers leaks too. So just an honest poll to see what percentage of our systems leak. All you need to do is vote. Reply if you like but no need to disclose if yur embarrased that your leaks too. It could be any part thats leaking to give a yes answer. Pump, lines, controll valve, ram...whatever. So whats your answer?

You know, it's really funny you mention this now as just yesterday a line burst in my daily driver. It's a pinhole but the reservoir drains in about 30 minutes of driving. Stupid ford.
I was going to post a question (semi-sarcasticly) what P/S fluid is made of. Sulfuric acid? Salt water? Corrosivomnium?

I foresee this to be the first poll in the C-3 section that is a complete landslide. There is a sure fire remedy though. Only drive straight. :D

Abso-LEAK-ly!
My 76 had a bad leak in the P/S control valve (Actually, one day when I topped it up and turned the wheel, the valve seals all popped and gushed fluid out like an artery wound.......VERY ugly until I replaced all the components.....)
My 1978 has a bad leak in it too....It has gotten so bad that I don't even bother to fill it normally until I can get a new rebuild kit for the control valve....I keep enough in it to keep it lubed, but anything else will just drip out before I get to drive it the next day.... :mad I plan on fixing it after the brakes and the starter.....gotta prioritize on the repairs sometimes..... :smash:
In the meantime, I just try to be careful.....and yes, I know the longer I put it off the worse it can get, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and live with a car problem until better times.....

And people say manual steering sucks. At least it doesn't leak. Can't turn in a parking lot but it doesn't leak! :D

Mine does not leak. I just installed a Hydroboost system also and it is still leak free. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Original pump, rebuilt steering ram and new steering valve 5 years ago. All is well.

Mine actually does not leak now! :) Something to note, tho.. I am quite confident that you can make your power steering leak by overfilling the p/s reservoir! I had a bonified leaky hose and replaced the hose (and fluid) and the darn thing was still leaking and I thought I would have to start replacing components.... then it suddenly stopped leaking after I lowered the level in the reservoir. of course, it won't leak if there is no fluid in there! but, that's not my point..... I think! MJ

I don't know how to vote... Mine was leaking, so I pulled it out. Now I have no power steering or power brakes (and no power engine). Fun!!!

Even though most of it has been replaced, there is still the occasional drip . . . one vote for leaking :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
I messed with mine some, got frustrated, unhooked the belt and drove it for a year without power steering, but, that is no fun. Finally, just bit the bullet and bought everything new including the pump, and, viola - no leaks and power steering :)

Guess I'm another lucky one also, I have not had the power steering leak at all, although when I got the vette I replaced all the lines. My steering box however does have a slight seal leak....

Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Ever heard of the trick of adding a little brake fluid to stop the leaks. I was told it swells the seals a bit and can stop leaks. I dont know if its a good idea or not. Could it hurt anything?
