Steering Gear Box Question
Is the steering gear box the same on both power steering and manual cars or are they different ?
If they're different, then how so?

As I understand it, the sterring boxes are the same, BUT the pitman arms are Very different and will NOT work. You'll have to change pitman arms...

Re: Steering Gear Box Question (sray454)
There is only one steering gear regardless if you have power or manual steering. You will need a new relay rod that has a power steering control valve attached to it. There are two different pitman shafts, one for manual steering, the other for power steering.
Several suppliers list power steering conversion kits that will supply all the required parts.
The only thing that I would add regarding the kits is that most of them do not include genuine GM power steering fluid. I would obtain GM fluid from a GM dealer.

Thanks, guys!!
Jim, I'm actually goint the opposite direction on this one and am converting from power to manual (I can see the faces being made at me right now :skep:   )
But I'm changing over the 350 fro a 454, and this takes more of the pulley/bracket expense and hassle away....there IS method to my madness!! :jester
