[paging] Van Steel..
I remember that a few months ago - you were offering a group purchase for Carbon Fiber Half Shafts... I recall that there weren't enough people for that group purchase... How much would be the carbon fiber half shafts (excluding shipping because I would pick them up)...
What's the weight difference between the carbon fiber halfshafts and the stock halfshafts? How many HP/Torque are those halfshafts rated?
Thanks in advance!!
Olivier

When I first read that line I thought you were asking how many HP/Torques the halfshafts would add to your engine :lolg: :lolg:

Well - they actually should add power.. but only rear wheel horsepower because of reduced centrifugal weight... but my question was reagarding how many HP/Torque the halfshafts can take...

Hi Olivier,
The carbon fiber half shafts can handle a lot of HP. It's going to take well over 1200 hp to da any kind of damage. I'm going to look in the archives to get the weight difference. I can't remember right now but i will post again to let you know. The shaft will be $580 for you since you'll be picking them up.

They seem to be lost in the archives. I just weighed a stock shaft w/flange and u-joints and it was 11lbs. If i remember correctly the carbon shafts are 7 or 8 lbs w/flange and u-joint. I'm having more made and i'll have them ready on monday so i can give you a definate weight than.

Could you guys also have some custom carbon fiber driveshafts made?? If yes- how much would it be? (mine is shorter than stock (approx. 26" - almost as short as a half shaft) because I use a Temec TKO transmission)

Yes we have carbon fiber drive shafts also. They are $630. It may be a little less because of the length. I need you to measure from center cap to center cap to get the correct length.

I might only get a chance to measure the driveshaft on the weekend....
I will let you know the measurements...
How long time does it take to get the driveshaft built?

GrandSportC3, Don't these look great? Van Steel, Great work. Rod
The u-joints are solid spicers - right?

Of course they are solid spicer joints. Come on Olivier, you know how we do things here. :D Spicer Solid joints and new Spicer flanges and they are cryo-ed. If you get me dimentions I can probably have it done w/in a week.

I would need one conversion u-joint for the driveshaft.. I don't know if it's available as a solid Spicer.. The yoke on my Tremec is 1350 series and the driveshaft is either 1310 or 1330 series... This means that I would need either a conversion u-joint that's 1310 or 1330 on one side and 1350 on the other side OR a driveshaft that accepts a 1350 u-joint on one side and a 1310 or 1330 u-joint on the other side so that a 1350 series u-joint can be used between the driveshaft and the transmission yoke and a 1310 or 1330 series u-joint can be used between the differential yoke and the driveshaft... Don't know what would be the better option...

Since you drag race a lot i would stay w/the 1350 on both sides. The only thing is that the conversion joints are only greeaseable joints. Are you using a bolt on slip yoke?

To change the diff yoke to a 1350 series you looking at $100 for a cast yoke and $150 for the chromoly yoke. They chromoly yoke is stronger also thats why there is a big price difference and i will change it for you for $75 if you bring it in. Changing to the 1350 would be your best bet. Your going to get an expensive carbon fiber drive shaft. You'll want it to hold up. I just don't think that 1310 joint is going to do you justice in the long run.

Hey Olivier
Got some numbers for you. Carbon fiber drive shaft weighs in at 5 1/4 lbs w/out a yoke.
1/2 shafts weigh in at 7 1/4 w/u-joints and flange.
