Which engine do you want?
I'm looking at taking the 327/350 stock engine out of my '68 roadster and puting a crate motor in it. Looking for ideas on what to do. I've got a '65 aluminum big block radiator from DeWitt with twin 11" SPAL fans for cooling so that's the limit. The 427 or 454 small blocks from World Castings look interesting but they are pricey! Looking for suggestions. I would like to have 400 HP or more. 500 to 600 HP would be ideal if I can afford it. I want it to be a high horse driver with reasonable idle characteristics. It has a 4 speed manual with a 4.11 rear end. Suggestions??

That company sells great engines at great prices, I plan on getting me a 383 from them. Check it out.

If I had it to do over again I would've started with a LS1 block and probably slapped a supercharger on it and a few more mods to make it around 500 HP, and it would still be lighter than my 350.

i would go with a sleeved and stroked ls1 that could give you a great driver with about 500 hp and be much lighter than anything else then if you put a just a small supercharger on it youcould get about 700 hp

"Been there done that". The first replacement engine I put in my 73 was a "350 HO" now called ZZ4 If I'm not mistaken But big deal anyway. Sure the "EASY" way out, Go to the dealership slap down the platic and go home with a motor that's close to what you want and you didn't even have to use your brain!!! Alot us would like a certain combination, yes these crate motors are close. Let's use our brain and research a couple of combinations, use better than average parts and manufactures and most important a GOOD MACHINE SHOP that builds competition engines. Example, the machine shop that built my engine took 3 454 alum. head engines put them on the dyno, after disassembled all three and reassembled to proper specs. Each engine gained at least 50hp, one was as high as 70hp just by assembling them to proper specs. Instead of having an air gun set to a certain torque spec and mass producing engines on an assembly line. Still again the key is to find a GOOD machine shop that will work with you on the combination that is best for your needs. I have a 383 almost 525hp and capable of mid 11's (11.86 best so far) and DROVE to NCM in 94 & 99 and try to DRIVE to a different out of state super chevy show each year. The car is only trailered when going racing. Nothing against crate engines but I think you can get a better (higher hp) engine built by a GOOD machine shop for the same $$$ as a crate engine.
