255/60-15 Dunlops vs Bridgestones, any opinions?
I'm about ready for a set of 255/60-15's on my '73.
I used to like the Dunlops back in the late '70's on my motorcycles. I haven't tried them on a car though. MAD has them for $80 a piece, that's cheaper than my last quote from Discount Tire on 'em.
thanks
dr

If you go to tirerack.com you can check all the detailed specs on different tires and compare things like temp, traction, treadwear ratings, max pressure ratings...ect. even if im not buying tires from them I use thier site for research to see what im gettin for the money. You never know, one tire may have a better traction and treadwear rating that the other and be cheaper to boot. Its hard to beat the value of the BFG T/A's.

I had Dunlops on my vet and they would spin but not squeel, didn't like that very much.
As for the original question, it's hard to compare tir brands and not specific tires. The big online tire stores have surveys that can tell you what people think of a specific tire.
Plus, it depends on what you want in a tire? Round, black and hold the car off the ground? Ride? Handling? ULTIMATE handling?

Chris,
As a matter of fact I was thinking about the GT Qualifiers. I'll check te spec's out at tirerack as Jvette73 suggested.

David - I agree totally with Alwyn678!!!!! Those tyres just can't handle a car that size in the wet. They weren't much good on the racetrack in the dry either! Screamed all the way around. :nono:
Yokohama 352's are much better (not sure if they are called that over where you are - they have an "A" looking tread), although a lot of people on the Forum have a problem with buying Yoko's.

My 82 had those Dunlops on it when I bought it and never knew the difference until I replaced them with BFG's when they wore out. BFG's for me.

When I had qualifiers on my car.. I got caught in a thunderstorm and almost died trying to get off I91 :smash:
I tapped the brakes and the car instantly went into a spin.. definatley not fun at 50mph with your girlfriend in the car  After a few punches in the arm and donuts on the off ramp I got the car to a stop without any damage besides the welts on my arms from the girl. Next day I put cobra's on it.. SO much better.. but they didnt last long being used and all

I'm suggesting/recommending that you go with Pirelli Scorpion Zero's. I got mine at http://www.tirerack.com and are more than pleased with them.
I got them in 255/60 VR15 . They handle great , are unbeatable in the rain and aren't noisy. They are listed as a sport truck tire . This gives you a slightly stiffer sidewall which helps with handling. :steering: The VR rating is good for 149 mph.
They also have a yellow scorpion on the sidewall

I'm running dunlop SP9000's on my bullit, (305) flywheel hp, 274 rwhp with a 5 speed and when I race I break loose hitting second and 3rd gear on 275/35r18s
My lightning use nitto xtreme drags on the rear and 555r in the front :lurk:
which is the best I have experienced and even have decent wear.
Another great one is the TOYO t1-s
I'll be switching to the nittos on my bullit soon.
i've never been able to hook up good with the comp t/a's by bfg
oh yeah and goodyear f1's suck
i have driven on all of these tires

Hmmmm....
My 78 had Dunlop G/T Qualifiers all around when I bought it a year ago.
The back tires were pretty thin, and I just replaced the back tires with a pair of used Cooper Cobra G/T's as a temporary until I get a full set of good tires....
Now I've got the Dunlops on the front with a reasonable amount of tread and Coopers on the back with about 7/8's new tread.
I'll have to keep my eye on this thread for when I want to change all 4 tires.
I've seen a lot of C-3's locally with the Firestone Firehawks on in 255/60, any opinion on these?

Yokohama Avid S/T - great riding, great handling. Very impressed. Any only on person has given me crap for putting a Japanese tire on my Corvette.

I have the Scorpions on my BBC and SBC 1980 Vettes.

Please - no Mafiosa jokes - just Fuggetabouddit..
