Default 1980 CHOKE & HIGH IDLE

Was all over the place tonight, under dash, center console, new starter and belts......and when all said and done, CHOKE light stays ON now, and IDLING very high ..... any idea what I hosed up this time???

Found the high idle problem, had a vaccum leak, that took care of the idling, but CHOKE light still constant on!

The problem with the choke light - was the Choke heater relay under the center shifter console, that I thought was the Anti Theft Horn relay (that is of course gone courtesy of BUBBA!

Seems like I fix one thing and cause something else to break :cry

Default Re: 1980 CHOKE & HIGH IDLE (azswede1960)

hello again - chances are that your choke is bad - you can get a replacment at napa for around 35.00 - replace the rivets with self tapping machine screws - to check take off the air cleaner when the car is COLD - pump the gas once and turn the key on and see if if the choke opens slowly - about 15 seconds - choke light should go out when the choke is about 3/4 open - dave
