i have carpeted tunnel covers that seem to be warped, and stick out from under the shifter plate about 1 inch on either side......
they seem to be made of the original fiber/partical board.......
how should I flatten them out so I don't have to stare at all of the heater wiring?

Red Green says duct tape a seam along your consol, that will close her up. If i were u I'd take them off, and steam them, or jsut get them wet and have them bowing inward as they dry. You will write off your corvette long before they start bowing outward again. :cheers:

that particle board/masonite crap is not suitable for any car interior....

take the carpet off, and trace each piece on sheet aluminum, drill/cut as to needs, and reglue with spray adhesives......

some of us don't have sheets of aluminum just hanging around. we are from Canada, you should be surprised we're not installing plywood covers. hey glutamine, cover it with birch bark.

I thought this was a bubba when I bought the car. Between the masonite and carpet the assembled console looks home made. I plan to vinyl coat mine and dye them to match.

We have aluminum and plywood, does anyone have any other solutions?

i guess a thin plywood would work,

my proposed solution (bloodvette will burn me for procrastinating, i've been meaning to do this all summer).........take the tunnel covers off, take a kettle, boil it and use the steam to humidify the material, then place corporate finance and advanced accounting textbooks (i have to use them for something) on top, therefore flattening them as they dry

i will replace these in the future

you bought the car 11 months ago..... I remember 20 minutes after you bought it we were crusing and you mentioned how your gonna have to fix those panels..... :lol: I'm laughing with you.... you've seen how good my power steering works.... how long did it take me to finally get my car in for a front end alignment..... I think we all need a good :boxing in the shoulder sometimes. :cheers:

That's what the dump is for. Aluminum - steel - stainless - bring a
screwdriver and pliers and go 'pickin'. No dump ? How about Home Depot -
or a Canadian equivalent ? I KNOW you have some sheetmetal lying around
'the farm'. It's right behind the spruce log car ramps.

How about (strange suggestion for a vette) fiberglass ? Find some flat panel
to cut from, or make your own by laying out some matte on a piece of plastic
wrap or wax paper over a piece of plywood - let harden and cut/drill to size.

I have some 30 and 50 thou sheetmetal, a sheet of each. (for welding patches autobody). I think the 50 is firm enough. Personally i would just design something to suck the sides in, like a small braket inside and a screw from each side, beside the seat where you wont see it.... call me bubba but.... by the way yes I have a few sheets of aluminum laying around but it's to thick and.... have you ever tried to cut aluminum? grinding wheel, or saw it will fill up with a paste and you're continually cleaning it out.
