Default battery light

I have a 1980 corvette and the battery light is coming on. The volt meter is reading 13.5 plus volts and all the lights are bright. What could be causing the problem? What controls the light. Is there a relay or something that could be causing the problem?

Thanks

Take your alternator to some place like Advanced Auto, or some other place that will test it. If it tests good, you can rule that out and look eslewhere. Mine was showing a charge on the meter but the battery light was on as well as my electric choke light, on the tach. Took it in to have it checked and it turned out that the diode inside the alt. was cooked. Replaced it, and I am back down the road in my '80.
