I was unbolting the headers this evenin for the Steeroids install and found another Bubba. Well, it's a Bubba to me. Let me know what you guys think. Bubba applied gasket sealer to the header gaskets. Now I've got about 1/2" of room to scrape header and head.

I've never heard of this much less ever done it. However, I am a 41 year old "old fart" so this might be a new trend. Is it? I've always used a good gasket and kept the bolts tight and never had sealin probs. Give me a clue if I'm behind the times.

Old fart or not, putting gasket sealer on the headers is just plain Bubba..... :lol:


Just to be sure, I checked....and there is no part numbers from the factory for header gasket sealer....Maybe what you have is a very rare edition from the factory. :lolg:


Put it on Ebay, you could make a fortune. :thumbs:

I don't know about where you live but it is common practice downunder to use silicone to seal headers/extractors to the head, without a gasket at all.
I have used this method for many years and it works fine. you can even use the cheap clear silcone instead of the expensive black or red ones.
If Bubba has a bad fit for the headers he may have used both to "fix" the leaks.
BTW, I picked up my first tube of JB weld while I was in the US.
Just waiting for a chance to use it!

It is the Bubba fix for warped flanges to use high temp (red / copper) RTV.

You're kiddin, right? I can't imagine silicone living long under the temps it would be exposed to as a header gasket.

Don't think it's 'Bubba' at all. It was recommended to me when I installed my new Dynomax headers (by the local hot rod shop). No leaks since December so I'm very satisfied. I wouldn't install headers without the silicone myself. :cool: BTW, it's silicone for headers so it'll work, mine has not burned off yet and it's been 9 months.

You think that's bad??? How about running the headlight vacuum off the distributor advance vac...how about sheel metal screws to hold the seats...How about toggle bolts to mount parking lamp grills and side grills...how about the under body seat mount plate riveted in backwards (hence sheet metal seat mounting screws)...how about the vacuum tank mounted with RTV....how about numerous replacement wires going nowhere in the harness...how about four different styles of screws to mount interior pieces (slotted, hex, phillips, self tapping) and the list goes on....
This is the 72 Bubbamobile I'm currently straightening out....

It's amazing how quickly people call a "Bubba" on things they do not know about. Permatex makes a Copper RTV that is used for high temp applications such as header gaskets.

Why use a sealer when none is needed? I've never had a problem sealing headers. Tighten the bolts every week for a month on new gaskets and never touched em after that. You should only need sealer on headers with bad flanges.
