Where to buy AC-Delco Oil Filters?
other than a dealer what retailers carry AC-Delco Oil Filters..
I can't find them anywhere.. ? I live in NJ

Tom, you might be surprised by the dealers parts department prices. I always assumed they were much higher than the parts houses. In my area nothing could be further from the truth. I went looking for an serpentine belt for my 94 truck and none of the chains had one in stock. I stopped at a Chevy dealer just for the heck of it, and they not only had one, but it was $2.00 cheaper than Autozone's price. Since then I've been getting a lot of stuff from them. Some of my 'vette restoration parts have come from the Chevy dealer at close to the same prices as the Corvette speciality places.
If you get to know the guys or girls at the dealership, sometime they'll go the extra inch to locate a source for hard to find things.

A/C delco no longer makes those two filters... It's a new number and a little different...... I THINK it is #445. :banghead:

They are made in Oshawa, Ontario by GM Canada. No problem getting them. Perhaps the USA is different? The PF454 is for the 8.1L GMC engine (494cid). I would not use it. The PF1218 can be used as it has a check valve, originally designed for the ZR-1 with a horizontal filter. It is basically the PF35 with a check valve. That valve is not needed for a C3 vertical filter but it will do no harm.
A search on the AC Delco Canada web site for a 1979 oil filter shows a PF25. I guess the USA has gone in a different direction.

I went to buy a PF25 the other day at the parts store and it has been replaced by a new number - something like 4525? Anyway, it is about 1" shorter which seems to me less filtering media.

Guess I'll head to the dealer. Closest PepBoys or AutoZone to
me is 26 miles & the local WalMaret & K-Mart do NOT carry AC-Delco
Oil Filters. Both carry Fram & Penzoil.

advance auto parts& pep boys have them. At about half the price from the dealer too.
Napa carries them, but you have to specifically ask for them, otherwise they'd just give you a wix filter (napa gold). But hey, if you're at napa you might as well just get a wix filter anyway, they're much better.

That's the number I saw. If you compare the old PF25 with the new on it is shorter in size. I decided to go with Fram that is still the same size as the PF25.

i swapped from the standard short filter to the long version for the sake of more filtration capacity. For some reason, I don't think my engine likes it.. On start up, the oil press jumps up to around 50 psi. when the engine warms up it drops back below 40 psi like it normally runs... not sure why it does it, but the change of filter is the only thing I have done in the engine realm...

the 1218 was meant to be used on full size 4X4 gm trucks that have the filter mounted horizontally. If you've never seen them they have the filter right about the front driveshaft, which is kind of hard to get out.
However, full size vans with 4.3s do use the 1218 vertically. Just thought i'd add that, as gm dosnt have any problem using 1218s vertically. People always tell me that evil checkball will damage your engine somehow if you mount it upright. Whatever dude...
The 454 is interchangable with the 1218, however the 454 is much smaller. I'd just use a 1218.
