Edelbrock Performer Carbs
Was watching Horsepower TV. They took a chevelle that had a big block and pulled off its intake and carb. It had a '65 Vette intake with a Holley carb. Replaced it with an air-gap intake and an Edelbrock Performer carb. With that change they picked up over 100 rear wheel hp.  That does not look good for Holley carbs. :)

Like they said on the show, the carb was old and worn out.
They just don't stress that point, in order to get you to go out and buy an Edelbrock carb. :D
Seriously makes me wonder if rebuilding my q-jet would help a lot...

I just replaced my 750 Holley dp mech with the 750 Performer mech, they do behave quite different. WIth my 383 stroker and an original Torquer intake it feels like the torque curve has been moved down the rpm band, but it also feels that compared to the Holley the Edel. starts to run out of steam in the upper rpm range, but mileage certainly did rise. I have done no adjustments to the Edel at all, just put it on straight out of the box. IMHO the Edel is better for cruising and running about town but the Holley is superior on the track.

Just replaced the holley on my '64 vette with an edelbrock performer 600cfm. (holley had a blown power valve) The thing runs beautiful and I'm very impressed with it. I originally bought it for my '72 vette because the float was sticking, but hadn't put it on yet. The Holleys always seem to be broken. I blew out the power valve once and the transfer tube was leaking, so I had to repair that. Just my 3 cents worth.

:iagree: - with everyone - actually.
For top performance you'd likely go Holley or a Demon.
My Edelbrock carb has performed flawlessly with no adjustments or
cleanings for years. Gotta love that low maintenance on a driver.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Carbs (Tom73)
The edelbrock carbs run well out of the box or with minor adjustments. The one downfall of those carbs is fuel control. Hard braking or a hard corner will cause the engine to stall. I used to run a 750 Edelbrock now I run a Demon, and I don't have that problem any more.
Horsepower TV is tototally supported by advertiser revenue. In some cases its like watching an infomercial for an half on hour on speed parts. I would guess that there was something wrong with the previous carb setup, so that they could get such a monsterous horsepower jump.

They just didn't emphasize that very much. I think they said it between coughs. :)

After getting fed up with the under the hood heat problems of my 750 Holley I went to the 750 Carter Comp. Series ( same as the Edelbrock?) and never had another heat related problem. It took a while but with the strip kit(needles and jets), the Carter eventially turned better times.
As far as quote:(The one downfall of those carbs is fuel control. Hard braking or a hard corner will cause the engine to stall) I have never had this problem.
