Forst impressions of new motor combo
I thought I would post my initial impressions of the new CC282 soild cam and Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake I installed last week. I am very happy with the way it runs, it seems to want to rev and not stop.
Now here is the weird part, I do not feel I have lost any torque/power below 3000RPM's on the contrary it feels like it has more power and above 3000RPM it just takes off, you can feel the power all the way to whenever I let off the gas. The old combo ( RPM Air Gap and CC270H ) would pull up top too but nothing like this.
I also put in a set of Harland Sharp aluminum roller rockers which I feel don't hurt but are a little noisy with the solid lifters, something I am getting used to and kinda like now. The rollers weren't really nessessary for the lift and seat pressure I am running but they will be mandatory for the next project.
So to recap, I have a 355ci small block, 3.08 rear end, Holley 750 DP with mechanical secondaries, Victor Jr. single plane intake and CC 282 solid cam with 235@ 0.050 duration and 0.530 lift ( all the parts I heard at one time or another have no business on the street ) and I can tool around at 1300RPM or I can hit the gas and the same motor pulls like a freight train. yeee hawwww :D

Ok, another satisfied open plenum manifold owner  Imagine that, a VJ works well on the street. Against all odds huh ?
Wait till you try some 3.55's or up in the rear. It will come alive .

Curtis, don't forget you were the one that told me the Holley 750 DP would be fine on the street :D
I am taking it to chassis dyno in a couple of weeks and I am thinking it will pull over 300HP at the rear wheels

If you have all the other parts them I would go with a CC294 solid, if I had known this cam was going to run this good ( I also have 15 in. of vacuum at idle ) I would have moved it up a notch to the 294 :D

I run a Torker II single plane on a few of my motors and I like them. It seems to me they do give up a little down low to a small dual plane, but I don't think they give up much of anything to a large dual plane. And they rev very very well. I've got one on a 7200 rpm motor and it pulls just fine.
A Victor Jr. is a larger single plane though, and I can believe that it doesn't feel its strongest below 3000. I can't help but wonder how frustrating that must be with 3.08 gears...unless you're running a Richmond.

I am still waiting for you to drop by some time after work to take me for a quick blast or two! Actually, that goes for any GTA guys that feel sorry for a guy who has been without an operable vette for almost 7 years!
Your new set up looks great, and I bet it sounds nice at WOT.

That engine looks great. Are you planning to dyno it? I'm curious to see how your engine will dyno out, because my current set-up is also a 355, 3.08 gears, stock heads, Q-Jet, etc in the sig..

I am going to put it on the chassis dyno in a couple of weeks, the motor pulled 285RWHP and 327RWT with CC270H and RPM AirGap intake, I am hoping to get over 300RWHP now.
Bruce, next time I take it to work I will drop by, how's the resto coming ?

I will be getting new gears shorly, I am not driving on the highway anymore anyway got two stone chips yesterday. :mad
Do you need special tools to change gears or should I leave this to the pros ( if I can find one ) :D

Congratulations!
Another case of someone who went a step further than all the magazine/mfg "I'll tell you a conservative combo so you won't sue me when it lopes too much" hype.
An engine needs air. There is no magic rule that says a mild cam and a dual plane will always make more low end. If you want to count at 1500-2500 rpm, well OK maybe...but move range from maybe 2500-6000 and see what happens. Pure grunt motors are fun to drive in a pure daily driver, but they run out of steam and nose over too fast. It's great if you have that "push you back in the seat feeling" at 3000 rpm..It's even better if it's still doing it at 6000+!!!!
Looks like you put together a good combo!
And gee whiz....lookee there....with a 750 Double pumper and 3.08 gears! I'm with Curtis, I don't know how many times I've told folks that a 750 DP is about the most versatile carb out there. It will run great on anything!
3.55's would be great...but a 5 speed would be better!!

Re: Forst impressions of new motor combo (MotorHead)
Wayne, I would love to go for a blast sometime, that is if you ever decide to drive it to work again! The resto is moving along, I just finished the rear suspension, and I am now getting ready to instal the front suspension. I am but a few weeks away from dropping the body back on! I have not been on the forum much due to working on it, and I haven't been to any vette shows this year yet for the same reason. I am hoping to make it to Wasaga this year, and also to the dyno day---when and where is that again?
