Roll-A-Way $79 garage AC up and running
i placed it in the hottest part of the garage, where the SUN shines thru the fiberglass door.

Re: Roll-A-Way $79 garage AC up and running (Matt Gruber)
4.6 Amps 510 watts 5000 BTU 46#
Has a modest blower, even on Hi. But, runs quiet, easy to hear stereo. Vents only adjust side to side. Had to put board under it to the right angle. Work is now possible under adverse conditions! Cool air blows out a good 6 feet.
Hot air blows out the back. (not the sides)

my local walmart had 3 @79. reg 96. Box was open and missing instructions. The last one is missing a ****. Haier is mailing the papers.
Home Depot had Maytags for $95 with 5 year in home service. i was too lazy to call HD.
Haier has 1 year in home. Good enough for my purpose.

that is one thing my shop desperately needs... cold air conditioning.
I looked into those portable models, but was worried about the hot air exhaust. Doesn't this cancel out the cold air generated... or do you duct out the hot air?

it works just like a heater in the winter.
Back when i lived in NJ i used a small heater near my feet, even working outside in 20 degrees. Did it raise the temp of the entire state? NO, but it kept my feet warm!
I'm sure you use a fan in the summer. But, it has an electric motor and HEATS the air! I had a 30" fan that drew 5.7 amps. gave a nice breeze despite the extra heat, at least in the morning. Later it was a real HOT breeze.
Now, my AC draws 4.7 amps, so it does heat the air behind the unit. That is a good place to keep your coffee warm. This winter i will turn around the AC and use the exhaust to keep warm. Like a Heat Pump.
Anyway the AC blows out cold air, and, like a fan, unless you stay in front of it, you miss out. But, by putting it on a roller seat, it just follows me wherever i go, like a puppy dog. In fact i may name it SPOT, since it drips water on the floor(now into a bucket)
Today i drilled 2 drain holes in the bottom of it because 1/2" of water was collecting in the cabinet. Now it won't rust out fast like they planned!

Doin' that this weekend. Bought a wall unit (110V, unknown BTU's) at a garage sale for ten bucks that works great, after I cleaned all the debris out of the condenser! My little shop has a door out to the back yard that is junk and never opens, so I picked up a solid door, I'll cut a hole in it, make some brakets on the outside and presto, no more 120 degree garage! Can't wait..

 $10 can't beat that!
if you put a table in front of it, you will have a cool spot to work.
Odds are (from my experience) it won't cool a 120 garage, unless you get 3-6 of them. But at $10 each you are headed in the right direction!

Matt, I can barely call it a garage. It's a one car, but the roll-up door has been removed and walled in, plus I have an insulated ceiling with access that has a plywood floor for added storage. So it's basically just a very small shop and I just need to take the edge off so I can stand it for more than a few minutes at a time. Beats nothin', but at least a 40x60 with heat and A/C is in my master plan, baby! Oh, and it may have a house somewhere on the property for my wife and I as well...
