Default Do I Need Professional Help Or am I Ok or To Far Gone

I want a C3 so bad that it’s consuming every second of my waking hours. I have short listed a bunch of C3’s in the Toronto area. I want to buy so bad that I may not be in a state of mind to make an objective decision. Any suggestions.

Do not go alone. Take along your most sceptical friend, preferably one with mechanical experience. I was in a similer state of mind when I went Vette hunting and bought the second car I looked at. I was lucky as the car turned out to be in very good shape, but it was a recipe for dissaster. These cars are so pretty that we have a tendency to forgive way too much.

There are several guys on here from Canada. See if any of them are close to you and maybe they can help. Also, you need to decide what you want the car for. Do you want one that is all original. Do you want one that you can modify alot? Or do you want one that is a nice daily driver? Also decide which options you'd like to have. Look at the frame to see how much rust it has. If the car has been painted, I would look EXTRA hard for crash damage. Corvettes are money hungry cars, so get the best you can afford in the first place-and best doesn't mean the car with the nicest paint job or shiniest valve covers. Check the condition of the suspension and engine/transmission. For the most part, anyone selling a car is usually not telling the whole truth, so you have to find everything for yourself. Good luck and we'd all love to see what you get.

:skep: These C3s are about 30 years old and most have hidden rust in crevaces and rotten rubber seals or bushings somewhere. I really enjoy my '74 C3 but have to remind myself it's a hobby and what looks like a minor fix can become a major project. I guess what I'm suggesting is ensure you have reliable transportation also. Good luck vette_net. :seeya

Let your head make the decision..

Not your heart...

Leave the emotion out of it and handle it like a business decision and you will be O.K.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Contact a local Corvette Club. They can suggest a member who knows all the in-and-outs.

Your not considering driving it back to Manitoba are you? The roads in Nothern Ontario can be very nasty.

Great advice! I'll just add that you should also LISTEN to what your expert friend has to say. Don't say anything to the seller until you've talked w/ your friend in private. This allows the voice of reason to slow you down & make sure you know what you're doing.

I tried to be that friend for a buddy of mine but he totally lost it when looking at a red 71 "LT1" Vette. The car was very rough in all respects, yet my buddy couldn't control himself long enough to listen to what I had to say. He blurted out "I'll take it."- for the guy's ASKING price without attempting to bargain. The seller couldn't believe it himself & tried to hide his grin. It turned out that the motor was not original(or even an LT1) & barely made it back to my buddy's house. He spent several thousand $$$$ on motor, trans, suspension, & interior over the next couple of years before he finally gave up on the car & sold it for less than his actual buying price.

So, be cool & be smart. You'll find a great Vette if you take your time. Good luck!

Vette_net, I'd be happy to help you in your search. I would also recommend the assistance of Superfast80. Drop me a line if you'd like to meet up.
