Default 78 nose collapsing

Anyone ever here the term "the nose of the car is collapsing"? I brought my
78 in to a body shop to get an estimate for a new paint job. He said the nose was collapsing because there is more gap near the top of the doors. He said to do the car right, they would have to take the nose off and fix it, check the frame, etc. at a cost of about $15,000 with the paint job. Later he said he could probably shim the nose up and paint the car for around $7,000.00. I'm opting for that solution, obviously because of the cost.

More likely the door is sagging a little. I would go to another shop and get another estimate before you do anything,

Ya it definitely sounds like he just watched the special on michael jackson. Have you had more then 10 reconstructive surgeries to the nose of your car? If so that could be your problem. Also...does your car know what color it is...black...white....? :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:

I wouldnt spend $15,000 but then again thats me. I think even for $7,000 Id tell him to go sit on his  But thats just me. Better be a damn good paintjob. But it sure seems like a lot to me

Throw a little glass into the gap, file to fit and paint. Total cost - $50 for repair,
$2500 for paint at a reputable shop.

ugman,
The nose on my car sags too. You can see it at the front of my hood. And the gap at the top of my door is wider then the bottom. I watched a series called dream car garage that restored an l88 corvette and they used shims to align the nose and the doors too. So it sounds like the body shop might be correct. Although 15k is highway robery 7,000 (while still high) is really no that bad. I didn't pay much less then that for my paintjob and they didn't shim any of my body panels. Just my .02

The place I brought the car does excellent work. They have a showroom full of vintage cars they have restored for sale. They restored a couple of 63's and a 57 which are mint. I was just trying to figure out what could have caused the sagging. They think it might have been hit or that the frame could be the cause. The frame doesn't have any rust though... Anyway, they are going to shim it the best they can before painting it. I'm hoping it comes out good.
