Default Salvage yard supplied electric fan...

I know people are at times considering switching to an electric fan from their mechanical units. Where I have an aftermarket elec fan set that I'm very pleased with, maybe this is an alternative for someone who is trying to do this on a budget ;)

Looks adequate for mild smallblocks - but a mod that most people here would
keep under wraps. Who could ever admit to having a Ford Taurus fan in their 'vette ?

Aren't the Camaro electric fans close to fitting our radiators well ?

Holy cow, did you see how much current that thing draws? 40 amps running and a 130 amp pulse at startup??? Do the aftermarket fans draw that much? I'd do the swap, but I think I'd put a bowtie sticker on the fan and claim it was from a Camaro or newer Corvette:D

Thanks for posting the article I have been thinking about a electric fan for a while but just couldn't swallow the price tag. I think this is for me, just don't tell anyone I put something Ford made, on my beloved Corvette. My Ford driving friends would never let me live it down. I tend to rag'em pretty bad about not driving a chevy.

Thanks for the link! I'm thinking of doing that in addition to my mechanical fan. I'll install it as a pusher on the front side of my condensor if there is room.

What do you guys think about the through-core connectors?

My electric fan is salvaged from an 86 Buick GN. It pulls 2600cfm. But if you find yourself pokin around the boneyard you can do even better than that. Look for a Pontiac Fiero V6 elec fan. They pull 2800cfm. Being a rear engine car, it needed a powerfull elec fan.

Those fiero fans are great. I was running one on my Chevota Landcruiser http://www.truckworld.com/Readers-Ri...mar/jones2.jpg (fits perfectly against the radiator and almost holds itself) but the shroud blocked more air going down the freeway (estimated 4000rpm @ 70mph) than the fan pulled. With the big radiator the vette has, I'd bet there's enough open core left for sufficient ram air cooling at high speeds. It really blasts the air through, and be sure to get one off of an air conditioned fiero then remove the ballast resistor (was a 2 speed).

I was told that to get the more powerfull Fiero fan you need to get one from a Fiero that cam factory with a V6 engine. The fans that came on the 4cyl models were not as powerfull, supposedly. My bro is into Turbo buicks and he says that some of the guys ditch thier factory GN fans and swap in the V6 Fiero fan since it pulls more air.
