Battery cut off switch....what is best
Looking for a battery cut off switch for when storing the cars. There is one with a round removable **** and then there is a blade style. Have heard that there are problems with the **** style (with the **** staying in while driving and with it having trouble making connections). So was wondering which you all thought was best? Am leaning towards the blade style.

I've had the little $10 job with the twist **** on mine for 5 years and never had a problem. If I am not going to drive the car at least once every week or two I kill it. Only takes a second to turn on.

I have a blade too. Either kind works well. The blades are probably better suited for batteries with side terminals.

Tom, I have the heavy duty knife style that is side mounted on my 73 and it works very well. I use it all the time especially when I'm at a car show, nice to have that extra sense of security and there's no drain on the battery when the switch is open. I purchased the switch through on of the ads in the Driveline mag from NCRS, LGB Industries 877-639-1691 you won't be disapointed..

Twist **** and works great. Much better than trying to get in the battery compartment with a wrench everytime I want to disconnect battery power. :yesnod:

For what it's worth, I've got a twist **** type on my boat. The **** is removable, but only when it is turned off. The boat gets a whole lot more violent bouncing around than my Vette, and I've never had a problem.

I had yhe **** type and it came loose occasionally. Also, on a side mount battery its a very tight fit. I eventually took it off and just make sure I start the car at least once a week.

I have the screw in **** type and have had no problems in two years. I also use a 5 amp fused bypass to keep the clock running.
When I leave the car in a parking lot I unscrew the **** and take it with me -making it even harder for someone to start the car. With the blade type switch, if the thief knows or looks for it, the car can be started with ease.
I made a copper bar that attaches to the side post and goes on top of the battery where the switch is mounted - much easier to access.

I decided to try the blade type. Just pick up one off of ebay. Now just to wait for it to get here and try it out.
Thanks to all for your input.

I'm gonna switch soon to the knife type. My **** comes loose way too many times no matter how much I hand-tighten it. I guess there's a lot of vibration in the battery compartment. It really bothers me when the t-tops are laying on top of the compartments back there.. PITA
