Hood Insulation Replacement...
Just purchased a "GM" hood insulation, complete with retainers & clips. Here's my problem...I epoxy-glued the plastic retainers to the underside of the hood and installed the insulation with the metal round clips. Everything was fine until the A/C fan belt shreded and tore up the insulation. I have reordered new hood insulation and am trying to figure out how to remove the metal clips from the plastic retainers without tearing them up......HELP!!! :banghead:

How about taking metal snips and cutting them in half?

I might be wrong but when I removed mine I thought the pin portion was split and I think all I had to do was squeeze the pin with a plier and slip the retainer off. It's been a while since I had insulation under my hood. I like the look without it better and it hasn't caused me any problems with paint. As far as sound deadening goes with everything else making noise I think it's a moot point.

Cutting the retainers with an aviation snips in such a way as to save the studs is the only way you are going to get it. The new retainers don't cost that much. That sucks that a lousy belt would cause you all this trouble. :mad
