spun #1 rod brg as suspected
After hearing knocking sound and pulling engine, sure enough #1 was spun.
In a way I'm glad I found it because after all this work there better have been something wrong.
An update on pulling engine, left bell attached to tranny and came out no problem. Had to jack tranny up a little to seperate. Now in a week I'll try to put back and update then.
Thanks for everyones help. I probably wouldn't try some of the work I do if it weren't for this board.

Re: spun #1 rod brg as suspected (Surfer69)
Sorry to hear about the bearing and admit I missed the topic about whatever lead to this.
Did you find anti-freeze in the oil ?
A side note, I guess you have a 4 speed , the motor will go back in easy with the bell housing on the tranny still in the car. Same with a automatic.
I have seen some posts about removing the hood for engine replacement . It is not necessecary
