Steering Wheel Recovering
Has anyone had their steering wheel recovered?
-Where can I get this done?
-How costly is it?
-Is it worth it or just buy new?
Asking for my buddy who needs one is his 81!

Re: Steering Wheel Recovering (cicch95)
Hey bud. I need this bad too. But it is just too much money for now. Average is $200-$300 plus $100 core charge. Almost all corvette manufacturers have this available. You can either send in your core and get a new one or send yours in to be recovered, and just wait a little longer.
Glad I could help

It may be a temporary fix.. but I went to the local autoparts store and bought a blue leather steering wheel 'skin' to cover my wheel. It cost $12 and fit like a glove. If you take the time to stitch it properly, it'll look great. Color looks a bit light in the picture, but its mostly because of the flash from the camera.
I know, she was looking a bit ratty on the interior.. but its always a work in progress (I dont have to tell ya'll that ;))

I have the vinyl non-tilt/tele wheel showing its age.
I did the wrap too. the white is a lot brighter than the oyster trim but better than the grudny yellow it has fadded too.

Rick, check out http://www.american-stitches.com
They did mine on my Buick T-Type, and it turned out beautiful. It's been on the car (my daily driver) for over a year now, and the leather still looks like new. As I recall, it was less than a week turn-around, and they were very nice to work with.

I just tried http://www.amercan-stitches and they want $259 plus shipping! YOW! That's even more than Mid America at $219. I need one covered too, but you're right, this seems outrageous for five bucks worth of leather. Anyone got a better idea?

Well, I contacted Dynamic Corvettes. info@dynamiccorvettes.com This is what they said.........
A re-wrap runs $199. There are a couple of ways that we can work this. You
can send me your wheel or I can send you a wheel and charge you $150 core
charge until I get your wheels back. Shipping on the wheel is $15. Usual
turn around time is under two weeks start to finish.
The cheapest I have seen.
Thanks for all the comments!!!

Re: Steering Wheel Recovering (Greg)
AS I RECALL, about 7 years ago, I had an old ratty late shark wheel to trade in, and got a fresh recovered one at the Carlysle show for about 75 bux...and I have been really happy with it, untill just recently....the padding underneath is most likely been affected by grease on my hands, and/or sunlight, so the top of it is soft in ONE spot about 2 inches wide on top of the wheel, centered....
lovely....so now I get to do something...

Yes it is worth it. And no you cannot buy a new wheel, just repros. This wheel was restored last winter by Chuck Pelton.
