Did anyone ever confirm the temp sensor from the volvo's?
Like the topic says anyone ever confirm the archives suggesting that a volvo WT510 temp sensor would be a semi-acceptable / appropriate part for a ZZ4 crate?

I just used my original one and put it in the intake near the thermostat. This area runs 10 to 15 degrees cooler (verified with Raytech IR temp gun) and I can live with that.

Believe you me, I've seen the temp sensor topics and they are all over the place. I really dont want to run the thing outta my intake. I would much rather get something that reads much cooler than normal. Atleast that way I would have a normal line regardless of actual temp # and an above normal line to keep in my mind.
Maybe I should be the one to give it a try and order it? Atleast its not an expensive suggestion.

I'm probably also gonna go ahead and try it once I can make it to the parts store. I'll let you know how it works although it might be a while.

Remember the problem with using the IR gun is that you are measureing the temperature of the metal not the temperature of the coolant.
The heads of course will be hotter than the intake, the water however will be picking up heat as it flows through the head increasing in temp. Therefore the water will be warmer at the thermostat than in the head.
Thats the explaination. The gauge guys, like autometer, and the parts guys like Edlebrock tell me that is how it is.

Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't the zz4 run l98 heads on it ? I used a bone stock 82 temp sensor when I changed over to the late model l98 heads and it worked fine.

FYI - I run a sensor from a 82 vette and it's pretty close to accurate. I mounted a temp guage under the hood and they run almost together even though the ohm ratios are different than the 78. I think the temp guages in these cars are pretty inaccurate anyway.
