having trouble matching a customers buckskin interior
I have a customer that has purchased a complete buckskin interior for his car. We have now sent him his second interior and he says everything still does not match. Has anyone else had a problem getting all the carpet components to match with this color? To be more specific, the deluxe door panels, rear compartment assemby, and the main carpet set.

Re: having trouble matching a customers buckskin interior (sdixon)
thats a prob Ive seen a few times, especially while helping ot in a local vette restorer shop. Seems like the buckskin is hard match. We finally came to the conclusion that trying to match new with old buckskin is very difficult due to a combination of the new dye not being a perfect match, and the original stuff you are leaving in place is sun faded. all it takes is a slight fade in buckskin, and it really stands out when placed near new

:iagree: I was really surprised at the variation in color from the new headrests I bought and my original interior. You may have to tell your customer to do what I did--take the original color to a paint store and get some SEM interior dye to match it. Kind of a PITA, but my interior looks matched now.

You may never satisfy that customer. It sounds like they are being very particular. It may be in your best interest to refund everything and suggest they try an alternative vendor...

:iagree:
I think I have seen it before where even different NEW components from different vendors didn't match correctly. The only way they will be satisfied is if EVERTHING is redyed all at once.

You'll never match them, Scott. Doubt if they ever matched from the factory. It's an exercise in frustration. I'd find a new customer, not a new interior vendor. :) You'll have the same problem with any color, except black. Chuck

Went throught this over the winter with my 77. It took three tries to get the carpet to match the doors and the rear compartment doors. I ended up cutting a sample of the old carpet from way in the back where it was not faded and sent it down to ACC.

Does this look like I'm being to particular ? Please be honest...
New door, storage compartment, carpet from same vendor. All supposed to be dark buckskin.
<edit> explanation of what we're looking at.

Boy is my face :bb
I just removed the plastic from the parts. I never dreamed the "clear" plastic could have such a dramatic effect on the shading. I brushed the nap a little, and things look fine. Kudos to Scott for his extraordinary effort in resolving this. As usual with this car I went from  to  to :mad to  to :D .

That is a very haed color to match. I had a little trouble matching the 'Doeskin' colored interior in my 79 and that was much easier than matching that mid seventies buckskin or tan color. :cry

Well, it turns out that there wasn't really a problem after all. Apparently the parts actually look better with the plastic removed  :jester
The doeskin from the 79 that was mentioned, incidently is the same carpet they use for light buckskin cars in 76.

I have a '76 with Buckskin interior and can confirm first-hand what others have said. The guy has to either buy a whole new interior, spray dye to get things close or put up with a slight mismatch, which in my opinion isn't the end of the world and hardly anyone but a Corvette person will notice. After all its a '76 not a 60's split window!! Some people are just TOO particular IMHO. ;)
