I'm going to use Marvel Mystry oil tomorrow for this problem.. It is also good for lots of other issues that are not fatal... Dave.

you can either spritz water into the carb which works great or take out your plugs, fill the cylinders with marvel mystery oil and let soak for a while, and then crank over car with plugs out, the stuff will come out the plug holes and engine will rev high from no compression

Now that you mentioned pouring the water down the carb (yes, that would do it for sure) do you remember back in the 70's a company was marketing a water injector, claimed to increase horsepower by a substantial amount?

those water injectors helped you advance the timing and yet not detonate. Also good with turbocharged cars.

As far as chemicals, the best is Chevron Engine Cleaner. NOT the fuel injector cleaner, but the stronger product. It has Techron, which is also what is in the GM Engine cleaner ------ "Fuel System Treatment

Cleans carbon deposits from carburetors, fuel injectors, intake valves, intake ports, and combustion chambers.
12 oz. size treats up to 12 gallons of fuel and is designed for small cars and trucks. 20 oz. size treats up to 20 gallons of fuel and is designed for larger cars, light-duty trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
Size: Item #:
12 oz. 12345515
20oz. 12345104 "

I have seen mechanics soak old pistons and valves in this stuff and the carbon just comes right off.

:iagree: My mechanic did that on my jeep a few years back....worked very well. He mixed water and tranny fluid ( I think it was 70/30 ratio), and poured down the carb. Lots of smoke at the tail pipes. But worked much better for a long time after that. Apperantly tranny fluid has cleaning agent in it

Good luck

I just used this product in my 75 L-82 convertible. This is the best stuff going. The car is like night and day with this product.

Brake kleen sprayed in the throttle body, mystery oil in the tank. Watch out with the brake kleen, though, I almost went down when I got one whiff of fumes the wind blew at me. Coughing for almost an hour. Took probably 2 years off with that one.

:iagree:

Not only id I use this on my car ( follow directions on can)
It was listed in a service bulletin on Volvo's in the late 80's, early 90's to cure rough idle and pinging. Appartently other manufacturers think it's a good product too!

I've used MOPAR Combustion Chamber Cleaner (not on my Vette yet) with good results. First can ran through the TB with engine at about 2k rpms. Lots of smoke. :) Then pulled all the plugs, and emptied the second can fairly equal between all the cylinders (4). Let it sit for a couple hours. Turned the engine over a few times to blow out fluid (no spark to distributor of course) then replaced the plugs. After a long cranking and a smokey start followed by an oil change it ran GREAT.

Eventually I'll do the same thing with the Vette, perhaps a different brand, but I'll do the same procedure.
