Default Foam radiator supports, or seals

I have been reading about overheating problems and have also read that these foam supports (or seals, I'm not too sure) are essential in keeping the engine cool. Would anyone be able to tell me where these foam pieces are and why they are needed? Thanks everyone!

the seals are between the radiator and radiator support. Also at the top and sides of the support. They keep the on coming air from channeling around the radiator, forcing it through where it does the most good.

If you don't have the seals, the pipe wrap insulation bought at most Home Depot's or hardware stores can be squished and fitted in place.

take a look at http://docrebuild.com/dr-r-web/aaa-home.html . They have the best quality radiator seal kits of those I have seen.

I was just in Yuma today, working at the hospital. Next time I head that way I will have to drop you a note. I would be nice to stop by and see another C3.

I used the foam rubber seals they sell at Home Depot on mine. Works great and only cost about $10 total. Takes about 15 minutes to install.

I noticed on the site that was mentioned above they don't have anything for a '77/L48. And also, we would have to take the radiator out to fit these seals right?

call and see what they recommend for L-48 for 1977.

And yes, to do it right, you have to remove the rad. Might as well remove it, take it to a shop and get it cleaned and then redo all the seals and do it right.

I don't use any seals and cured my overheating with a 4 core radiator.

Had a 3 core, seals, water wetter, distilled water, all the tricks. Would overheat is hot summer traffic.

Now with a 4 core, no seals, hot summer traffic, hits 200 at a standstill, but drops as soon as I start moving. I know everyone is going to poo-poo this, but it works for me.

Bubba here...... I live near a Home Depot. :leaving:
No overheating problems. You do not have to remove rhe rad if you go this route.
