Default Water pump replacement

Has anyone put on a standard short pump instead of a Corvette 3/4 shaft vrs a 5/8 shaft and changing to a billet pulley that matches the 5/8 shaft. Is this okay or is something special about the offset of the corvette pulley? Just get a larger selection by using a standard pump. JamieJ

Default Re: Water pump replacement (jamiejamison)

If you are talking about a small block pump the length of the pump from the pulley flange to the face of the block is:

Short pump - 5 5/8th

Corvette pump - 5 13/16ths

Long pump - 6 15/16ths

So to answer your question, there is 3/16th differance between the short pump and a Corvette pump. That still leaves you needing to know if the pulley offset is the same or not. I can't help you with that.
