Aluminum auto trans oil pans.........yay or nay?
I like the looks of them, but I am worried about debris hitting a cast pan and it cracking open instead of denting like a steel pan would. Am I worried about nothing, or is this a valid concern?

I had one on my 700R4 with an extra 1 quart capacity. It also had the cooling fins, drain plug and I drilled and tapped it for a temperature sensor.
I liked the looks, the added cooling capacity and never had a problem with it. If it hits something my oil pan would have been history long before the tranny pan.

The cast alum ones that about 3/8" to 1/2" thick are ok. The stamped alum ones are fragil and most trans shops won't use them as there is a different cofficient or expansion between the pan and the trans and they end up leaking more that a steel pan.

I installed the Deralde pan that holds an extra quart and has the cooling tubes but I did install a drain plug in the rear of the pan. Measuring the pan temp with the cooling tubes and extra fluid it dropped the temp around 15-21 degrees.......

I recently bought one for my old TH400 (B&M cast aluminum with fins and drain plug) - have not installed it as I would have had to alter the bracket for the shifter cable which is bolted to two of the pans bolts.
Just needs a little cutting and welding as it sits half inch lower on the aluminum pan and the recesses around the bolts will not fit the bracket.
Have a look at it in a shop and you will know what I mean (kinda hart to explain).
Meanwhile I have converted to manual... which is far better anyway
