4 post lift in an 8ft garage
I would like to put a 4post lift in my garage. Is this possible. I have a C3 convertible which I want to put on it. I want to park a C5 under it. Iwas thinking of cutting one of the ceiling rafters so I can raise the windshield post into the attic. I would also have to raise the garage door track so it hugged the ceiling. There is no weight on top of my garage and the rafter would be braced.
The C3 is 36 inches high if you not count the windsheild(it will be in the attic.
A c5 is 48 inches tall. That gives me 12 inches to play with. Is this cutting it to close.
I am concerned with the c3 getting stuck if it is raised to high. How do the mechanical lock work. Isnt there a stop every 6 inches or so. I dont know how to explain this but is it possible that if you miss the lovering point you have to raise it to the next level( 6 inches higher) to lower it. If that is the case I could run out of room and have a major problem.

Maybe you can consider one of the ramp lifts that you drive on and then use a floor jacck to lift the rear end up. You see them advertised on the Corvette trader and some of the vette mags. It looks like it only raises the car about 24 to 36 inches and is much easier on the pocketbook.
Just an idea..

Another thing to consider is the garage door in the open position. It should be OK as it usually just opens over the hood of the the top car in the lift. I garage door opener would cause clearance problems too.

My garage is 9'5" and with the Vette's stacked (48+48=96") and then allow 5" for the ramps (total = 101 out of 113") plus leave a few inches for good measure (pun intended).
I'm going with the Doublepark lift which is 165" long by 105" wide so it will fit nicely. I also have to raise the garge doors though as te 7' doors need to come up about 18" to clear even if I back the car in. I'll probably loose the door opener if I can't find some type of extension for it. There are sidemount motors available but they ain't cheap.
WIth an 8" ceiling you either need to cut the ceiling into the attic (as you suggested) or you will have a problem.
