How much oil to put in...no dipstick!
Whats up guys. I havent had a chance to put a dipstick into my new engine and I have to change the oil tomorrow. How much oil should I put in? Is there a way to check your oil level without a dipstick? I know its a retarded question but oh well. It amazes me that I just got done doing an engine swap and putting in a new 700r4 conversion, however I still have to learn how to time an engine, and how many quarts of oil this thing takes, lol. Oh well. Im learning, luckily I had help putting the engine and tranny in (I did all of the work though...just some supervisory help!)

The book lists "stock" small block oil capacity as 5 quarts.
Typical oil & filter change is probably between 4.5 & 5 quarts, but you don't want to overfill it, so it may be best to keep it on the low side until you get your dipstick. Better keep an eye on your oil pressure gauge :yesnod:

5 quarts w/ filter. If the new dip stick you get doesnt read correct at "full", just score a new full mark on it with a chisel.
