Default something broke bad, now need help to figure out what?

Going at hiway speeds, all of a sudden loss of power and engine overheating.
Pulled off road and wouldnt start so towed back to my garage. Today saw the alt belt had flipped over so thought maybe thats all it was. No. Engine starts like always but now knocking noise from somewhere. Used the screwdriver to the ear trick and sounds like near hyd lifter area under intake manfld. Definitely seems at the top of engine.

Took valve covers off and no bent pushrods or anything obvious. Just need some opinions on what to do next. Maybe that cam change I wanted.

oil checks normal, most coolant came out pressure relief cap hose so nothing unusual. Think I'm going to take manifold off now.

Try the simple things first!
Did you try running the engine with the alternater belt off? I was getting strange noises out of mine in the spring and it turned out to be a bad bearing in the alternater!

checked alt and it was OK not making any noises. Took manifold off and number 2 intake push rod pretty bent but dont know if it was always like that.

I dont know if I should yank heads off or not. The knocking was clearly something broken but yet engine actually idled fine but with more throttle noise became worse.

If it was just bad lifter, how can I test hydr lifters for colapse? Would bad lifter make knocking sound?

i broke a crank shaft once and one of the belts came off.

i don't know what would cause a bent pushrod at medium rpms.
