Default Well, i got a ticket today in the Vette...

had the vette out and was returning to my sisters place where i keep the car...was there for 40 minutes and left to hit the store...i pull off her street and 50 yards down is a 4 way stop...cop there with the tripod out with speed trap...pulls me over gives me a 110$ ticket for no front plate...

"but officer, there is no bracket there to mount it and i think it is an american car."

he tells me there have been noise complaints and people speeding along the street...says they will be in the area the next few weeks...nothing against my car personally...

so i thank him for correcting my problem and i hit the store.....i am returning the same way 6-8 minutes later and he is gone...

do you think someone called the cops when i was barking up the road on the way to my sisters, he comes and sets up, nabs me by chance then he leaves...

if he was staking out that spot looking for no one in particular, would he not have been there longer?

:banghead:

i will be leaving it off till i get another one this year....if i do not get another then it stays off... :bs

That does indeed stink, my friend. Here in TX, front plates are required. However, not one of my 4 vehicles has one. ;)

Sometimes they pull you over for anything, sometimes they leave you alone.

I have one ticket in my '69 and it was for exhibition of acceleration (give me a break, I wasn't even smoking rubber). It was out of a toll booth and the guy caught up to me literally 4 miles down the road. He looked the car over really well, and I saw him do a double-take when he saw no front plate. But he didn't bother giving me grief for that.

So who knows? I wouldn't really worry about it, but if they keep setting up shop there then you may have to slap one on. Is there an alternate route not too far out of your way?

In Kansas you dont have to have a front plate.

I got that same ticket not to long ago, take it to court! Tie rap your front plate and take a pic, IF the cop shows up to court show them the pic and they will 99% of the time dismiss the case. I hate those BS tickets
BTW I got off mine

Front plates aren't required in FL. I don't think I'd mind if one was though, I'd put it on. I don't think it detracts from the appearance enough to risk a ticket. I guess that's just me because I grew up in a state that did require front plates.

That sucks. Seems like a cool cop would have let you off with a warning for such a petty issue. I've been debating the addition of a center grill on my '74 instead of a front plate. Here in Oregon, they are also required as far as I know, though I see lots of C5s without them, so I think they overlook it.

I replaced my front plate with a 1968 British Columbia plate (same colour scheme as current Ontario plates, thus not that noticeable at a quick glance). Guess I now know how much it costs if I run into an officer looking for an excuse to give me a ticket.....

I'd say that it was coincidence that you got nabbed. Still sucks though, $110 could have gone for new carpets :lolg:

Got one of those on the Corvair a while back. I fixed it on the spot (while he was writing the ticket) and had him sign it off right then. total :bs and a waste of time, since there was no fine for a fix-it ticket.

Now I think they cite for it and it has a hefty fine. It's mainly in the larger metro areas that have red-light cameras that rely on a front plate to ticket.

I think most cops would have given you a warning about a front plate. It does sound a little bit fishy or the cop was just a jerk.

Go to court Mike. You'll beat the rap.

Alternatively, just don't pay the ticket and do the time. I'm sure you can handle those guys in the slammer. Don't pay any attention when they say "Hey, you got a purty mouth!"

I'm the same way, we've only recently put front plates on our driver cars, I hope to use the approach of, "its a 74, look at my grill, where does it go?" if I ever get pulled over for no front plate. If you register your car as an antique vehicle, you don't have to run a front plate, just pay more money each year. So you can, "pay now, or pay later".

He was definately not waiting specifically for you, unless your the guy making all the noise. They always go back to the station after giving a ticket. He was just reporting the ticket. Ive never once heard of a cop going back to his 'post' after giving a ticket.

Very well could have been a set-up since you were on that same road earlier. If there was a noise complaint (And your local response time is anything like ours - about 20-60 min. for non-emergency) he could have been cruising the neighborhood. And if your car sounds like i think it does, he probably heard you from a few blocks away. Why didn't he give you a ticket for noise if that's the call he got? Maybe it would be hard to prove YOUR car caused the complaint since it was 40 min. later, but HIM seeing no front plate will hold up better in court (if he even shows up). Tell you what, I would take a nice hard run up that same road at about 1AM and give them somethin' to complain about :cuss, but that might just cost you more $$$. Good Luck if you decide to fight it.
