The additive package in diesel oil is much better than current gas engine oil. Search for posts by SWC Duke for an in depth explanation. BTW it is what I currently use in my 70 350/350.

I use Shell Rotella 15W40 in everything I drive. A hydraulics and fluid dynamics specialist that works with our company a lot (salesman who went to school to disect oil  ) swears by the stuff, and he doesn't even sell it. He said the additive package is far superior to any other engine oil on the market, then lost me in laboratory type talk. :yesnod:

A lot of reading here. The diesel oils tend to have a higher zinc content, which is an extreme pressure, anti wear additive.

Saw it at gas station the other day, 15W-40 did a double take then read a little further and it days diesel oil.
If it were good for gasoline cars don't you think the marketing boys would have latched on to this by now ? :D

Re: Diesel oil in a gasoline car? (MotorHead)
I think there's a reason for this too. Of course, this is partly conjecture, but from riding motorcycles over the years, I've learned that automotive oils have been regulated over the years, to not be compatible with wet clutches and motorcycle transmissions. Diesel oils have not. Oil is partly religion, and I've decided that the diesel oils will work with our older V8s, better than the newer automotive oils that are designed for modern engines. I think the oil companies would be slitting their own throats if they marketed it that way. :D

The only problem I had with Synth oil was the oil leak that developed because of it, well not the fault of the Synth Oil rather the fault of using dino oil in it at all.

I run Rotella 15w40 in the Corvette and have had great sucess. Its relativley inexpensive and easy to hande as it comes in gallon jugs.
Having a few motor issues over the past few seasons I have decided to fogo synthetic in the vette. The BMW still gets it though :seeya

Also, if you burn any oil, the diesel oils will leave more deposits due to the higher sulfated ash ratings.
