Caliper/ rotor upgrade?
Thinking about upgrading to different rotor design - maybe drilled or slotted.
Also thinking about upgrading to a lighter caliper - maybe aluminum.
Anyone have any tips or experiences to relate?

Give me about two weeks and I can tell you how the C5 brakes work. I am in the middle of upgrading to drilled and slotted Z06 brakes as we speak.

Working on this:
have 6 pistons for front, bracket is pretty easy, still need to figure out the rear (when i decide what to do w/ the suspension)

Looks great TT, any change you might be intereted of fabrication few more pairs of those neat brackets, I know there's a demand on this forum. We could all go straight to Wilwood for the calipers.

I have the Force-10 aluminum calipers and slotted rotors. Calipers are $600 for the set and that comes w/ hoses and pads. Different colors to. Red, yellow, alumium and black. You can't delete the hoses from the kit b/c they are different than stock. The slotted rotors are heat treated and they go for $139. Just to give you an idea of what an brake upgrade might run you. OH yeah free shipping in the U.S.

So that's 600+139+139=878 for the fronts? How much weight saving would this change make? Are these calipers O ring design?

That Wildwood set up is SWEET!
Some day when I have the cash! I heard that C4 brakes can be made to fix pretty easy. Any truth to that? They have a kind of finned aluminium housing that looks pretty good, right?
:)

Brackets for some Wilwood calipers are simple but a little work. A Piece of 1/4" steel with the holes in the right place is all you need.
( ok getting those holes in the right spot is a pain in the Azz )
Do you guys know that Vette Brakes sells Aluminum front hubs with bolt on rotors?, you want to talk about unsprung weight reduction...

You can get the C5 brake setup for cheap. I am going to have right around $500 in mine and that includes calipers, rotors, braided lines, and brackets.

Stock calipers weigh 13 1/4 dressed w/pads pin and cotter pin. Aluminum calipers are 9 lbs dressed. The calipers are o-ring and stainless steel sleeved. It will be $878 for the fronts w/rotors.

Are you using slotted rotors or stock rotors. Slotted rotors go for $400 /side and the OEM calipers are $150 each. The DOT braided hoses are $140. Just in calipers and braded hoses your into it for $440. and buy going w/ OEM rotors(which are $80 each) your at $740 and w/no brackets. I'm a little confused w/what you are using. Are you buy all the parts new or used? Just curious.

The set I got came off of a 2001 Z06 with 5,000 miles. The previous owner upgraded to a set of Baer brakes. The ones I got included drilled and slotted rotors, calipers and caliper brackets. I picked all this up for $250. I am currently making brackets to fit the 1970 then going with Earl's braided lines.
I guess I got a better deal than I thought.

70LS1-
What diameter are the Z06 rotors? What wheel size is required to accomodate the ZO6 rotors?
Thanks.

Re: Caliper/ rotor upgrade? (flynhi)
Fronts are 12.8" x 1.25". This is about 1" larger than C3 and same width.
Rears are 12" x 1.0". About 1/4" larger than C3 and same width.
The offset is much different between C5 and C3 brakes. The rotor surface is much closer to the wheel than on the C3. This does not affect caliper clearance on the wheel, however, due the the floating design of the caliper. The pistons are on the inside and the outside is pretty thin. These are PBR calipers and are the same ones that Baer uses on their upgrades. You might be able to get away with a 16" wheel, but I know these will fit inside 17".
One more thing. The only difference between stock C5 and Z06 brakes are the color of the calipers. The Z06 ones are powder coated red.
