U69 vs. U79 Radio
My '70 is equipped with the standard U69 AM/FM radio. I would like to find and install the U79 optional stereo radio. Is this as simple as swapping the radio receiver units, or do I need to change heat sinks, amplifiers, wiring harnesses, plug connectors, etc?

You need the heat sink unit also.. The stereo has a different unit on the right side behind the dash. I don't know if the harnesses are the same. I have the 69 AIM so I can look for it and post later.

Sir, to bring your car up to a U79 stereo you will need the amp that mounts in the upper right side dash next to the defroster plentum. The U69 amp mounted on the very far right of the upper dash. Next you will need the harness and last the actual radio head or unit. Now for a dose af reality, my 70 has U79 and the reception is not alot better than the U69. Yea it's nice to boast about the option but it just dosen't perform like a cheap new radio. Just old technology! Thad

Thanks for the info, guys. Like you said Thad, it's just more to say the car has the option. If I can buy the required equipment at the right price I'll consider going for it.
